@jzpitts Tried to read Moby Dick. Got bored at Chapter 57 with what I felt was unnecessary asides. Same when I got to the History Lessons (Book III) of Les Mis. I'm there for characters & stories and get bored with the rest!

@Jameswriter371 Not at all. I've become more of a hybrid plantser for longer works where I have an outline and some notes to work on but I've regularly (and still do for short one-offs) just write without planning. Those '1000 questions for your character' sheets seem overkill to me!

Found a screencap of the article this linked to (the site is now gone) Insisted you pay £2k for an editor and £1k for proofing if you wanted your book to be of good quality. How many self-published books make £3k, plus the money for a "Good Cover"! Easy way to get into debt...
