we nepalis are known for our hard work, resilience and warm hospitality. anywhere we go, whether it's working abroad or in nepal, we show up, put our heads down and get the job done. and honestly, that is something to be proud of.

but sometime i wish we weren't so humble to a fault.

humility is a strength but when it comes at the cost of confidence, assertiveness and ambition, it becomes a limitation. on the international stage, i often see nepalis in the role of order takers, rarely as decision makers. we execute plans brilliantly, meet deadlines and go the extra mile. but when it comes to vision, strategy or leadership? we are either absent or overlooked. and part of that is on us.

we weren't raised to speak up. it's not that we lack intelligence or creativity. but cultural conditioning, lack of exposure, country's underdevelopment and a historical absence of good role models in leadership have kept us from dreaming bigger or leading with conviction. our schools still teach us to memorize and obey, not to question. our society often frowns upon ambition as arrogance. and our workplace are rarely merit based.

we glorify struggle but we don't invest in leadership. we celebrate how "down to earth" we are, but ignore the fact we need people who can dream big, take risks and speak up.

and until we fix that, we'll keep being the backbone of someone else's success story instead of building our own.
