@audisdead Totally get that. I was mainly trying to address the people in your replies asking if they should panic/expressing concern about this being similar to COVID. Just wanted to emphasize the risk for EEEV is MUCH much lower!
@audisdead The field is working on vaccines, but the development process is slow since EEEV is so rare and is also a federally regulated pathogen. If anyone has any more questions about EEEV I can try and answer them!
@audisdead I’m a virologist who works with EEEV! This is not a new disease, it’s very rare but cases do occur every year. It also doesn’t spread from person to person. Wear bug spray and protective clothing, and try to follow the curfew. It’s a scary virus but no need to panic! :)
Had a great time representing @IDM_PittPubHlth and @PittCVR at the Pitt 3 Minute Thesis competition today! Always excited to explain my research to people outside of science. Congrats to all the competitors on a job well done!
💡@AppEnvMicro Spotlight💡 Lysogeny enables phage persistence when bacterial host density is low or hosts are starved (e.g., in soils). Jacoby et al. provide evidence for seasonal trends in lysogeny in Appalachian forest soil 🌿🍂https://t.co/NEz9wDyIDJ (Image: David M. Hunt)
Join us at the Positive-Strand RNA Viruses @KeystoneSymp in Ireland this Oct. With a keynote from @niaidnews VRC’s Ted Pierson + many speakers, we explore +strand virology w/ an interdisciplinary angle.

Excited to share that my first first-author paper was published today! This paper is the culmination of my undergrad research at @wm_biology and couldn't have been done without lots of effort from the Williamson lab in the years since I left. Enjoy! 🎉https://t.co/ohUtjAuoLW
BREAKING: The family of Henrietta Lacks is settling a lawsuit against a biotechnology company they accused of taking her cervical cells without her knowledge. They accused the company's leaders of reaping billions of dollars from a racist medical system. https://t.co/UnpEeiFYC2
Thank you @CarnegieSciCtr for letting us host the Tour Your Future event @PittCVR. We had a blast teaching the students about our research and the diverse paths that led us to a career in STEM. They were such an inquisitive bunch! We're looking forward to next year!
Had such a fun time this week at #ASV2023 hanging out with my roommate & fellow Pitt student @mswilkin4! Loved seeing everyone’s posters, talks, and overall great science. See you next year!
One of the coolest parts about #ASV2023 so far has been connecting with fellow @williamandmary alumni. And not just W&M alums, but former Williamson Lab undergraduate researchers!
Such a pleasure reconnecting with Joe (‘12) and meeting @itsmelainaj (‘21). Kurt taught us well!
Here I give a brief overview of how the vaccine against #Monkeypox works.
This vaccine is under various brand names including JYNNEOS (US), IMVANEX (EU), and IMVAMUNE (Canada) which is made by the company Bavarian Nordic.

@joshryancarr I have never cried so hard at a character’s death as I did for Glenn... I was 17 and I truly think it traumatized me to this day. I stuck around reluctantly, but sobbing my eyes out AGAIN for Carl’s death was the final straw.
@Vitamin_Leeee I was (and still am) a huge Harry Potter fan as a kid, and I also moved every 3ish years b/c of my dad’s military job. Every time I moved, my AR account got reset, so I would take all the HP tests at once and get a ton of points. I won the AR contest almost every year... oops
