Metal thefts are now happening repeatedly across the country.

This time, at a campground and log house facility that was supposed to open on May 29, thieves stole a large number of faucets and every metal grate from the stoves.

Imagine preparing to open a new place, only to have even the basic metal parts ripped away.

This is not just theft.

It is the collapse of public order, trust, and the basic decency that Japan used to be known for.

Another historic temple has burned in Japan.

On the evening of May 16, a fire broke out at Daihoji Temple in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture.

The temple is said to have been founded in 1453, during Japan’s Muromachi period.

Firefighters responded with around 20 fire trucks, and although all four residents were confirmed safe, the main hall was burned.

The cause is still under investigation.

But this year, there have been far too many fires at shrines and temples across Japan.

These are not just old buildings.

They are pieces of Japan’s memory, faith, and history.

Once they are gone, they can never truly be replaced.
