At the Burimari border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat district, Bangladesh, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to push people into Bangladeshi territory by switching off their lights. However, the attempt failed due to strong resistance from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents.
The incident occurred at around 8:00 pm on Tuesday (3 November) near the 2-S sub-pillar of international boundary pillar No. 832, in the Bangerbari area under Ward No. 6 of Burimari Union in Patgram upazila.
According to local sources, BSF personnel stationed on the other side of the border suddenly switched off their searchlights at night and attempted to push people into Bangladesh under the cover of darkness. As soon as they learned of the situation, local residents became alert and gathered in large numbers along the border. Some BSF personnel were then seen running around near the border. Shortly after the Bangladeshi residents began shouting, the BSF personnel switched the lights back on.
A local resident named Nurul Islam told https://t.co/wyhav3dxMO: “Around 8 pm, the lights were suddenly switched off, so we shouted. Then, together with BGB personnel, we began guarding the border with sticks.”
Local residents alleged that, since the post-election period in West Bengal, Bengali-speaking Muslims living in India have been labelled “illegal,” and attempts have been made to push them into Bangladesh or make them infiltrate illegally. They said people living in border areas are living in deep anxiety and concern. However, they added that, along with the BGB, local residents are prepared to resist such activities by the BSF.
Meanwhile, BGB sources said patrols have been significantly strengthened at sensitive points along the district’s border, day and night, to prevent any illegal infiltration or security-disrupting activity. Surveillance and checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles at checkpoints have also been increased.
Lieutenant Colonel Karim Ullah Islam, assistant director of Teesta Battalion 61, said BGB members are on high alert along the border. “Any attempt by the BSF to push people into Bangladesh will be prevented. The BGB is fully prepared to take all necessary steps to protect the integrity and security of the border,” he said.
Monu Manesar, who is out on bail in double murder case, again found assaulting Muslims in Haryana.
Recently, he had put out a photo of himself meeting with a senior cop in Faridabad.
Hello @police_haryana, do you have to say anything on this?
It is easier to target minorities especially Muslims .Targeting a vulnerable community is not strength or governance; it is an abuse of power and a failure of constitutional responsibility.
Two Muslim women from Assam, Jahanara Begum and Mumtaz Begum, have been missing since they were forcibly sent to Bangladesh in June 2026. More than four months later, their families still do not know where they are or what condition they are in.
According to an Article 14 report, both women were declared foreigners by a Foreigners Tribunal in 2019. They challenged this decision in the Gauhati High Court. In April 2026, the High Court set aside the Tribunal’s earlier ruling and ordered a fresh hearing in both cases, because the Tribunal had failed to properly consider important evidence.
However, when the two women appeared before the Tribunal again in May, they were taken into custody. They were then moved to police stations and detention centres in different districts. Finally, on the night of 13–14 June, they were forcibly sent to Bangladesh through the Border Security Force (BSF).
The most serious aspect of the entire case is that a certified copy of the Tribunal’s new order was not provided in time. As a result, the two women may not have had a proper opportunity to challenge the order in the Gauhati High Court.
The Gauhati High Court ordered the Assam government to pay interim compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of both women. It also directed the Ministry of External Affairs to make efforts to locate the two women in Bangladesh and bring them back to India.
Despite this, the families of both women are still waiting for them. They do not even know what condition their mother, wife, and family member is in.
This is really shameful.

When victim is a hindu, then Gandhis/Yadavs/politicians rush with blank cheque.
But when the victim is a poor Muslim kid and the perpetrator a hindu, no politician bothers to take a peek.
Also notice the absence of media trial of the assaulter.
