Last night one of my girls was hurting because of the actions and opinions of another person. I approached her, and smoothed her hair back. I looked into her eyes and said, “You know what I wish? I wish that my opinion of you was the only one that mattered. 1/3
My 7yo had swimming lessons this year, same as every year. I could not afford the lessons by myself so I asked her dad if he was able to contribute his part by the time the payment was due -today. He committed he could do part. Today I asked for it and he said "not possible."
All I can think is that it must be nice to just be able to shirk responsibilities and trust that someone else will take care of the things that you refuse to. I'm angry and frustrated.
We can be deeply grateful Trump’s life was spared and still strongly wish we had different presidential candidates. Humans really are capable of nuance. Trolls are not. But humans are.
When my kids were little they had a set of sippy cups that were different colors and the parts were interchangeable. Their dad had gotten the cups together and he used a color combination that was unpleasant to my eye and I remarked, “I don’t like those colors together.” /1
In the “Love & Respect” evangelical Christian community I was a part of, that was a criticism of him, and I needed to learn to be respectful and affirming.
