Amaka went to get pads. She wanted to get 3. Then she checked her purse, looked at the price tag, and did the math. She could only afford 1. Last month, she could afford 3 packs. Today, only a single pack.
"God is not good because you live in Lekki!" - Rev'd. Olaleye Olufemi @pfemiolaleye teaches on prosperity.
God still has faithful shepherds for His sheep. Listen.
Nigerian pastor, look at this church.
The first rain of the year demolished it, yet the members still gathered to worship.
We bring this up because a new wave of doctrine increasingly ties the gospel to money.
Pastors are now emphasizing wealth in ways Jesus and His apostles never did.
We are indoctrinating God's people to love money, trust in money, and elevate it—despite the Bible's repeated warnings against this.
This is being masked as "making the gospel move."
Pastor, Jesus diminished the role of money.
In fact, He diminished everything tied to this life in favor of God’s kingdom.
Did He not say:
Mark 8:36 “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
And again:
Luke 12:15 “Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
If life itself is worth more than money, why emphasize what Jesus actively diminished?
Are you wiser than the Lord, who ensured the first missionary assignment was undertaken without material support?
Luke 22:35 “When I sent you without purse, bag, or sandals, did you lack anything?”
Do you understand the gospel better than the One who died to bring it to us?
Why, then, do you encourage God's people to chase and desire what Jesus warned would keep them from His kingdom?
Did He not challenge the rich young ruler?
Did His apostles not make it clear?
Did Paul not write that God did not use the rich, wise, or powerful to reveal the gospel, but instead chose the weak and lowly?
1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
1 Corinthians 1:26 “Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.”
You cannot love Jesus' flock more than He who died for them.
Stop teaching them to be obsessed with money. The gospel moves with or without it.
Paul was in prison but declared that the gospel was not in chains.
If billions are needed, Jesus will provide. If nothing is needed, the gospel still goes forth.
Finally, teach Christians about money as the Bible does:
Tell them hard work builds wealth over time.
Tell them not to be lazy.
Tell them money is for meeting needs, but never to chase or trust in it.
Never teach that wealth is a sign of godliness.
Remind them that not all will be rich, and that the poor will inherit heaven.
Teach them what is better than money. Let their joy and boasting be in knowing the One who is Life.
To Him be all glory, power, and honor. Amen.
Religion is not Nigeria's problem. There have been religious civilizations that dominated the entire world: Ancient Greece, Rome, USA, Britain, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, etc.
Neither is its cultural diversity. @itsprecious____
