Maze used to be delivered to poor regions to prevent hunger in Kenya. It was decided that poor people do not have a choice in the food they consume. Direct cash transfers cut the cost of food delivery and storage while allowing people to make choices for themselves. #utafitisera

Let's shift the conversation from one on 'demolitions' towards 'integration'. There is no reason why people must go when a road is being built. Where there is will, there is always a way to integrate people into the infrastructural model. #utafitisera @PASGR_ #urbanplanning

Land lies at the heart of the challenge of economic growth and poverty reduction in every country. The importance of good land governance has long been recognised by the people of Kenya as a critical issue for sustainable socio-economic dvt.

Barriers/gaps to meaningful public participation
- Lack of policy framework
- Only donor safeguards apply
- Consultants who arent community
- No community participation in draft or program identification
- Laws are disjointed
- Top down approach
- Persons of interest #UtafitiSera

The majority of Nairobi's population is non-titled and lives in informal settlements. Lack of physical addresses aggravates their socioeconomic and political exclusion. Why don't we give addresses to the unaddressed and title the non-titled? #utafitisera @PASGR_ @pamoja_trust

Trump thinks Arab leaders don’t care about Palestinians, but their populations do, and the images from today and WH reactions will complicate things in the Middle East for US. https://t.co/B24Nbd5f3Z

The relationship between state and civil society has three faces: there will be points of convergence, there will be instances of suspicion and there will be moments where they diverge. Today we are seeking moments of convergence. #utafitisera @pasgr

Most infrastructure projects and accompanying resettlement frameworks negate the inextricable link between housing and livelihood. Informal settlers typically work and live in the same place. Displacement therefore is both physical and economic #utafitisera #panafrican

[Radwa Saad @itsradwa]

What most housing project end up doing increasing the value of land at the expense of the majority. Again we ask: housing development for whom?

[Radwa Saad @itsradwa]

Colonial governments favored roads over people. Houses over homes. Economic growth over social cohesion. Top-down commands over bottom-up solutions. How can we make infrastructure development people-centric in postcolonial Africa? #utafitisera #panafrican #PASGR

[Radwa Saad @itsradwa]

We all know that most of these infrastructure developments are being paid for my foreign loan money and contracts are granted based on financial interests of a select elite group of people. Is this sustainable development?
#utafitisera #urbanization #panafrican #PASGR

[Radwa Saad @itsradwa]

What gives a select group of people the right to turn the country into bricks and mortars and displace people in the process? Why is this colonial mentality persisting, who is infrastructure supposed to help if not the poor?

Roads have the power to enhance exports, improve livelihoods, and save lives. However, in absence of proper relocation policies, roads can destroy communities. We must keep asking: development for whom? #utafitisera #PASGR #panafrican #familiestornapart

Pictures illuminating from Kenya's Vision 2030 depict a mini-Dubai. There are massive skyscrapers and tall-buildings with no people. Where are the people? What is the purpose of infrastructure if not to improve human lives? #utafitisera #PASGR #Panafrican #africanpolicymaking
