@CBHeresy My cousin use to work at an inner city school. She would tell us that every day she broke up a fight between girls.
She would have students tell her “I’m not gonna cause you trouble, but I ain’t gonna do no work.”
Case in point…
My daughter didn’t make the All-Star team because they didn’t to a 10U team this year.
So their coach tried to create a separate team for all the 10U girls to go play in a tournament nearby for the fun of it.
Was shot down by the adults in the board in the league we play in. But I can’t help but wonder if it had been boys wanting to go play baseball if they would have greenlit it…
Personal finance is still required in many schools, kids just sleep through it because they take it as freshmen or sophomores when they are too immature to realize the benefits.
Now, you have to have an Elective Focus area (in TN) and I hate it. Kids have to “major” in a specific area instead of experiencing all kinds of extracurricular classes. It sucks.
No… I’m getting a stipend for the after school rehearsals, the football games, the contests, the basketball games, the Winterguard competitions, the Winterguard practices, and the concerts.
It’s $2000… for all that.
I get paid my slalary for being the band director and teaching during general music and concert band during the day.
Fixed it for you.
@tchrscurriculum I need to keep the water running, the lights on, and food on the table. That’s my why.
Figured it might as well be something enjoyable. (I teach band.)
For me it’s not really a complaint. Like many said, I knew what I was getting in to. I only complain when people make it sound like there is nothing to what we do. Just today, spent about 2 hours “off the clock” getting costume and uniform designs worked out and sent to the company making them.
Not complaining about that, it is what it is, but that is 2 hours during the summer, not getting paid, that I could have spent with my daughters.
But, that’s the job I chose and I do love it.
@ZillennialApple Honestly, the anger over most school/teacher/student issues seems be entirely online.
Most of what people in our own community complain about isn’t even happening because we are a small town “everybody knows everybody” kinda school.
@educator4ever36 Totally. Don’t get me wrong, I would never want to teach an EOC class and but subject to that stress.
But if the math teachers knew what I deal with behind the scenes running a band program, they wouldn’t want that stress either 🤣
@educator4ever36 Yes! And even better if you can introduce some euro games that are complex. My daughters had to really put their reading and comprehension skills to the test the other night while playing Root!
