Google is raising the bar for Android apps.

Google Play is introducing 2 new app quality requirements focused on performance and security:

🧠 1. Lower memory usage
Apps will be measured for:
• Dynamic memory (RAM + swap)
• Bitmap/image memory
• DEX code optimization

Developers will need at least 25% optimization, shrinking and obfuscation for eligible apps.

📅 Enforcement starts February 2027. Apps that consistently exceed the thresholds could face reduced visibility and publishing capabilities on Google Play.

🔐 2. Zero-Tap Sign-In
When users move to a new Android phone, supported apps will need to automatically restore their sign-in state using Android’s Restore Credentials API.

No entering passwords again. No extra taps.

📅 This requirement starts April 2027.

Google is also adding new tools in Play Console to help developers track memory usage, out-of-memory crashes and DEX optimization.

In short: less RAM usage + faster onboarding + better security. 📱⚡
