Many of the things I want to say too. There's a much bigger picture at play in Pax Silica than the simplistic mischaracterization of it just being water-hungry data centers. What I see are semiconductor fabrication, advanced manufacturing, mineral processing, and the possibility of turning our own mineral ores into the high-value components that will power the technologies of the future, right here in the Philippines.

One of the great economic tragedies of our country is that we largely missed the manufacturing and industrial transformation that propelled many of our neighbours into prosperity. We remained exporters of raw materials and importers of higher-value products. Never the choice to build factories that produce many of the gadgets we use today.

That's how I view Pax Silica and the Luzon Economic Corridor. They represent a remarkable vote of confidence that high value industries can be built in the Philippines despite our well-known structural disadvantages (among the highest electricity costs in Asia, infrastructure bottlenecks, among many others) that often make us the less obvious investment destination in the region.

Our security allies are finally economically choosing us despite all that.

Yet much of the conversation has narrowed to data centers and water consumption, legitimate issues yes but is only one part of a much broader and deeper objective that has the potential to lift our country out of this slump.

By all means, scrutinize every aspect. Demand transparency. Protect the public interest. But let's not lose sight of the strategic opportunity before us or talk ourselves out of it before we've even examined the facts.
