Obi is 13 in a few days. Teenage living comes with all sorts of distractions. One thing I will attempt to program into my clan at this age is an understanding of capital. Nothing heavy, just listen into a 1-2 board calls per quarter & at the minimum he should have an appreciation for where his school fees are safe guarded. SC walked us through their H2 outlook and where across US & APAC they feel we should be exposed. He didn't really understand it, but being in the room with him was enough for me.

@SIREradical @Substack All this before you accounting for differences between jurisdictions. Eg if you’re displaying a price to me in NGN, you likely have to abide by Nigerian consumer protection rules; different if you’re priced in USD and I as a Nigerian voluntarily procure your service in USD etc.

@SIREradical @Substack just even remembered another technical thing to solve for: you’d need to handle your payments somewhat independently for data compliance reasons to do things like validate the country on the payment method matches the account country/price of the initiator etc.

@SIREradical @Substack That last point was drawing a contrast with someone that does dynamic pricing like Apple; they have app stores accross jurisdictions and manage local taxes etc but they’re beyond profitable enought to absorb the HR and financial costs.

@SIREradical @Substack …b/c the most liquid/subscription heavy markets are often the ones that can/will pay higher prices, what you’re suggesting is essentially them building a new workflow and absorb the costs just to make less money + they’re not multi jurisdiction (I think), which makes it worse.

@SIREradical @Substack But you have to remember that substack’s whole value proposition is making it easier to publish so option 2 is out the window cause that’s too much friction. Considering they make money off a cut of subs and dynamic pricing is almost always about discounting in certain areas…

@SIREradical Definitely possible, but my hunch is that the reward isn’t worth the effort. It’s not as simple as it sounds. Off the top of my head, Substack would need market insight team/algo to track exchange rates and other components of the ‘dynamic’ part or leave it up to the pubs.
