The Parliamentary Opposition is refusing to participate in the Prime Minister's Question Time, describing the process as a "shameful parliamentary charade."
The Opposition says the mechanism intended to hold the Prime Minister accountable has been undermined, here's more.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the heads of special operations across the country’s seven policing districts will be put in place “soon,” as she warned criminals to leave areas where the new measures will be implemented.
Responding to questions from Guardian Media yesterday, Persad-Bissessar said the Government intends to use “hard policing measures” under the Special Operations legislation, which is now law.

BILL TO INCREASE AGE LIMITS FOR GAMBLING, MARIJUANA, ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO PASSED
Last night, the Government bench in the Senate voted for and passed legislation to increase the permissible ages for gambling, marijuana, alcohol and tobacco use.
The PNM, as expected, did not support the legislation. The PNM’s answer to protecting our youth is giving them marijuana to smoke and low-paying, menial welfare jobs. The PNM parliamentarians only exist to serve the owners of the PNM while simultaneously destroying your children’s futures.
After hours of useless braying from the nine scumbag President’s senators, they also voted against the Bill, which was created to protect your children and grandchildren as they enter adulthood. Their vote against protecting young people was consistent with the hateful behaviour that this loathsome and grotesque group of persons has shown towards legislation intended to benefit our children. Recall that they also voted against expanding the Children’s Life Fund to benefit children suffering from life-threatening conditions.
The Government will continue to pass legislation to benefit the law-abiding citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. I remain committed to protecting your loved ones, especially your precious children.
The legislation will now be sent to the President to be proclaimed and operationalised in early 2027.
May God bless and protect you all. I love you all. 💛💛💛

The Senate has passed legislation raising the legal age for drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco in Trinidad and Tobago to 21, and for gambling and cannabis use to 25, but the Government failed to attract a single “yes” vote from either the Opposition or Independent benches.
