When I go downtown I see a lot less white people than last year, and a lot more people from third-world countries.

They don’t speak English. They all do DoorDash on a ghost account that once belonged to someone named Rebecca. The rest of the time, they mill around aimlessly. They have new phones, paid for by some organization at the border. They’ll tell you all about it if you ask. They’re often high on legal weed. If not, they’re selling it at the gas station to young kids.

Meanwhile, constant media messaging tells white people that having kids is bad and unaffordable and annoying. Everything from movies to commercials tells white people that they’re killing the planet, that having children is sentencing them to death by climate change, that having children guarantees that death. I don’t take it seriously, but a lot of people do.

The affordability part isn’t totally wrong. Money’s tight for young families right now. They have to spend far above their means to raise their children outside of crime-ridden slums. To get them a half-decent education, even public. They run up credit cards and personal loans.

I see more and more signs in Spanish and Mandarin every day. Not just in the cities, in the suburbs. Billboards in four languages extolling free healthcare.

And the whole time, the media gloats about how this is a good thing. Public policy figures often talk about how it’s intentional and beneficial, that ethnic food street stands make the country more vibrant, even if they’re dirty.

But if I point this out, I’m called a conspiracy theorist, and a lazy one at that. Surely the thing that every corporation and government office explicitly endorses is just… accidental, natural demographic change.

Surely all of the heavily-funded NGOs involved are just doing this for no reason at all.

Surely I’m dumb for noticing it.
