@ibogost I think a degree of anthropological respect is due here too. Those who are deeply into things we're not nearly always seem odd to us -- as true of religion as music, language, or fandoms. There are real communities in fandom (and, yes, many faux ones), and they do a lot of good.

@ibogost I can see both sides of this one. I'm not a good fan; I just don't "fan" (or stan) well. I like things, but I rarely dive into them. But, I've seen those who do up close, a lot. There are negatives that are easy to pick out -- but there are huge positives that are more subtle.

After 5 weeks, total cases nearly 4x, new cases up more than 4x. This is exponential growth, not linear, tied directly to opening too soon and lack of prevention.

Also keep in mind that hospitalizations trail spikes by 1-2 weeks, which trail infections by ~2 weeks.

@JeanLeggett Ageism in tech (games especially, IME) is achingly real. OTOH, so is letting your skills slide a bit as you age. Since you have many years exp already, it seems like less of a big deal. Even with sharp skills, ageism is real; without these, you just give hiring mgrs an excuse.
