Congratulations to @iuigenesis, the literary and art magazine housed in @IUILiberalArts@IUIndianapolis, for winning Literary Magazine of the Year at the Indiana Collegiate Press Assoc. awards! This student-run publication showcases stellar writing & artwork by our students.
We love to see writers put their unique positionalities into their work, whether that means playing with form, space, language, or even genre. Mario Stone plays with both form and language, weaving artfully between English and Spanish, in his recently accepted poem "Inspiró"
During spring break, many of us are visiting with family, looking back on old memories and finding that relationships have changed with time. Alicia Rump does much of the same kind of reminiscing with her family in her recently accepted essay, "Rebuilding Home"
Happy International Women's Day! For much of history, women often published their works anonymously or under male pen names. Today, the publishing world is more equitable across genders, and we're happy to celebrate women with pieces like "The Worship of Woman" by Elise Dobson
During Black History Month, we at genesis want to lift up the Black voices and Black stories they share through our magazine. "Being Black" by Tyler Butler, an essay we've recently accepted, speaks to the author's experiences of learning about and joining in Black culture.
Now that the deadline is passed, our editors are hard at work going over our final submissions and preparing this year's issue. While you wait, here is a sneak peak of an essay we've already accepted: "How to be Mexican American in Indiana" by Xavier Neier
As we head into the end of the semester, our editors are still going strong, and we hope you are too. Our deadline is Feb 1, so you still have time to submit! In the meantime, check out another preview of a piece we've already accepted: "Miles Per Minute" by Ruthie Barakat
During Thanksgiving break, our editors are taking a well-deserved week off. We've been hard at work every week, reviewing and discussing dozens of submissions! Here's a sneak peak of just one that we've already accepted: "Refurbished Doll" by Raeya Wilhelm
The genesis editors are reviewing student submissions each week, so submit your creative works anytime between now and February 1st! Check out the link in our bio for more information!
As you’re enrolling in classes for the Spring semester, think about joining Professor Sarah Layden’s Literary Editing and Publishing! This course prepares you for a future in the publishing world and counts as an apprenticeship for genesis! Don’t miss this worthwhile opportunity!
It’s that time of year again to get your creative works submitted to genesis! We are accepting submissions through February 1st, and can’t wait to receive your works! Check out the link in our bio for more information!!
We’re doing things a little differently this time around! This year genesis is only having one large issue that will be released in the Spring semester! Our official deadline is February 1st, 2024! Check out the link in our bio for submission guidelines and submit your works!
Curious about what genres genesis accepts submissions for? Here’s a helpful guide! We are accepting submissions now, so check out the link in our bio for further guidelines and a link to submit!
Join the @BradburyCenter & @iupuigenesis at The AMP at 16 Tech this Saturday for a relaxed morning of writing & chatting on the creative process.

Congratulations to all the winners!!
Got plans this Wednesday? Cancel them and come to the genesis release party instead! You’ll get snacks, refreshments, and the first chance to grab a copy of our Spring 2023 issue! 4:30-6 PM in the Lilly Auditorium—be there or be square!
Don’t forget: the genesis release party for our newest issue is in one week! This is the perfect time to take a break from end-of-semester stress, see art from the issue displayed, hear authors read their works, mingle with art and literature enthusiasts, and get the new issue!
For our final question, we asked our editors what advice they would give for future genesis submitters! We encourage any students returning in the fall semester to consider submitting for our Fall 2023 issue!
