Celebrate America's 250th anniversary with @iulibraries, as we draw on our campus’s academic expertise and cultural treasures. 📜
Throughout the spring semester, IU’s America 250 initiative will include new courses, lectures, performances, exhibitions and community-focused events exploring the Revolutionary War era and the historical, political, philosophical and social forces that shaped the nation’s founding.
A centerpiece of the campus’s programming includes a special exhibition, featuring a copy of the Declaration of Independence produced on the evening of July 4, 1776. Of the 26 known surviving copies, @IULillyLibrary owns one of only three located west of the Allegheny Mountains. It will be on exhibit all year at the Lilly Library, alongside first-edition works from the period, personal letters from the Founding Fathers and rare copies of foundational books that influenced the concepts of the Declaration. 🏛️
