Wealth asymmetry and a legal order that favors the asset-owning classes are a real concern.
But Malé’s parking and traffic problems don’t fit neatly into this frame.
This is a general failure.
Everyone who owns a vehicle does it, regardless of vehicle type, and it goes well beyond parking to nearly every kind of road-use violation.
Police extend leniency, reasoning that since there’s no parking solution, they won’t treat it as a law and order issue.
Law should apply equally, and it should be applied, and not selectively. Towing vehicles on certain areas and not others is also selective application.
If the underlying system does not change people naturally resort to old survival mechanisms… when people are left with so little, anyone who brings even a hint of progress gets treated like a messiah.
It makes me wonder:
Do we blame the public for being desperately disillusioned?
Or do we blame the leaders for designing such dependency?
Another one of my work-related subscriptions failed to renew.
And the response by BML is that it’s not an essential subscription payment.
Amazon Prime and HBO are somehow “essential” but the sub I need for my work is not.
Incredible job @bankofmaldives@MMuizzu

The gravest social injustice happening in this country is the monthly extraction of MVR 15k–18k in the form of rent from the very people who need SH.
These units were awarded at heavily subsidized rates to provide affordable housing, not to generate private profits.
After many attempts, I finally convinced a group of Chinese friends who frequently visit Maldives to travel with me to Addu and explore its potential, not just for tourism, but for other sectors as well.
Checked tickets tonight, 3,374/- for my return ticket. Them, however, have to pay 6,758/- each because they are tourists.
I had to tell them that the seven of them would need to spend a total of 47,306/- just on flights between Malee and Addu.
For comparison, those same seven people spent less than 36,000 in total on their return flights between Colombo and Malee.
It is difficult to see local tourism in Addu reaching its full potential unless we either find a way to significantly reduce the current travel costs between Malee and Addu or develop Addu into such a compelling destination that visitors feel the extra cost is worth paying ( highly unlikely )

How about stop all foreign visits by all soes and government officials until we get our reserves back. Cut embassies to skeleton staff and stop tuition fees for ambassadors kids studying abroad. We pay them a salary to support their kids
– She was living away from husband for 4 years
– Husband came to her home, forcefully opened the gate
– He was drunk, took hold of her son and hanged him upside down
– She tried to protect herself & her son and hit him with a stick
– Went to temple, asked forgiveness & informed police
Seems like a case of self-defence to me.
