As a State Senator from Oklahoma and a steadfast defender of free speech and democratic values, I find it unacceptable what is happening to Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro in Brazil.
To investigate an elected official simply for seeking international support and exposing abuses in defense of his country is a troubling sign that something is deeply wrong with the justice system.
Here in the United States, we uphold the right of every citizen — especially an elected representative — to question, speak out, and take action when they believe their nation is at risk.
Using the power of the state to silence opposition is not justice — it's tyranny.
And when this happens in one of Latin America’s largest democracies, the world should be paying attention.
