The cost of proper EDD looks expensive until you compare it with a bad counterparty, a frozen transaction, a reputation issue or a partner who never had the capacity they claimed. Diligence is cheaper before signature.

A site visit is not a photo opportunity. It should test whether the operating reality matches the investment memo: staff, stock, customers, equipment, activity, local recognition and evidence that the business is real.

One boardroom red flag: everyone agrees too quickly. In real businesses, numbers get challenged and roles are clear. When every answer sounds rehearsed, I start checking who is really in control.

A database report can confirm a company exists. It cannot tell you whether the business is actually operating, whether suppliers trust it, or whether the founder has overstated scale. In East Africa, that gap is where diligence starts.

Desktop due diligence tells you what a company says about itself. Ground truth tells you whether the market agrees. In frontier markets, the gap between those two is where most risk lives.

@NumbuhJay @aChildOf2Worlds We can count on our hands how many black creatives have broken through and what they need to sacrifice morally just to remain (e.g stormzy and the infamous mcdz ad) at some point you gotta realise your envionment isnt going to improve and your talent is best suited elsewhere
