I know dozens of great engineers coding full-time who haven’t written a line of code manually in 6 months.
There’s zero exaggeration or hyperbole in that.
if you’re an intellectual life peaks ~$10m net worth—enough to unlock almost all of the cheat codes, but not so much that you glitch out.
you’ve got f-you money without the soul-crushing headaches of real wealth & the burden to do something with it. everything ahead of you, nothing dragging behind.
I would love an ELO-based restaurant ranking system
Yelp reviews aren’t very useful. Everything is 3.5 - 4.5 stars. Tells me nothing. Same for Google Maps. The 0-5 scale just doesn’t get used properly because of social norms toward high ratings.
What would work much better is…
Olen juba mõnda aega siin IT-valdkonna asemel hoopis toitlustuse suunas piilunud. Ja homsest olengi siis kokk mis kokk. Vikerkaare kohvikust Tartus Vikerkaare tänaval leiate mu siis pliidi tagant suve lõpuni. Tulge läbi, saate hea hommikusöögi!
If God wanted us to build Type 1 Civilization, he would have:
1. put a giant fusion reactor in the sky
(emitting blackbody radiation around 5800 K)
2. made 28% of Earth's crust out of a semiconductor with a matching bandgap (~1.1 eV or so)
3. filled the oceans with an alkali metal we could use to store limitless quantities of energy
(sodium or something similar)
That would be a crazy coincidence...
“Society runs on energy & materials, but most people think it runs on money…[Money] is created as debt subject to mathematical laws of compound interest…Money eventually gets spent on a good or service which will contain embodied energy. Money is a claim on energy yet its creation is not tethered to energy availability or cost.”
