Some of Nigeria’s South continue to falsely infuse themselves into the Benin History and culture - not to associate factually but achieve outright thievery.

Why? Because what they have as “history” & “culture” were made up stories. They’re desperately looking for the historical relevances to fill the voids in their nonconforming stories.

No Pride. No Shame either. Only a sense of entitlement & of thieves that they earned from their British slave masters.🦇🐆

Finally wrapped up my short fantasy-adventure film inspired by the Kingdom of Benin and the Edo people of present-day Nigeria—one of my favorite African civilizations to study and creatively explore.

I tried to keep the clothing and cultural elements grounded in Edo traditions while blending them with fantasy and science fiction. I’m much more interested in imaginative adaptations than strict historical reenactments because fantasy, adventure, and sci-fi allow us to explore African cultures in limitless new ways.

Edo culture has so much potential for world-building, character design, architecture, mythology, technology, and storytelling. It is genuinely one of the most fascinating cultures to experiment with creatively.

For my next short film, I’m focusing heavily on Ashanti culture. In the future, I would also love to explore Dahomey, Munhumutapa, and many other African kingdoms and civilizations through fantasy, adventure, and science fiction.

I’m completely obsessed with sci-fi and would love to continue creating stories that use African societies and civilizations as the foundation for entirely new worlds.

The day Oba Erediauwa became a demi-God.
After performing every rite of kingship at the Uzama palace, the Oba excourted by a large procession of people "chiefs, nobles and commoners", to the invincible rivers of Omi and Oteleghe, were chief isekhere, re-enacting a more than 700yrs old tradition started by Oba Ewedo.

The Oba adorned in the full Benin state regalia with, the ede-ada, hand beads, neck beads, fabrics made from beads even shoes made from bead, and as he stands, he resembles a shimmering giant, an impregnable ant hill, which earn him the nickname "Ite Okhan".

He's fully dressed in the Ododo ghá yu gié "If the scarlet clothes go to a festival it must return", on his chest a thick beaded rope known as ukugh' Ohanmwen "hunger belt". Attached to the beaded rope is the ihe ikuá otó "The ground (the Oba) doesn't feel the weight of load kept on it".

The Oba is depicted holding the royal talisman and a red hen in his left hand, while an attendant follows closely behind carrying the Eben and the Esukporu. At the river, Chief Isekhere, the royal ferryman, is seen with a paddle, ferrying the king across to the opposite bank, completing his symbolic godlike journey between the earthly and godly realms.

The Warrior garb used in the movie "Damson Idris and Cynthia Erivo" shows a direct inspiration from ancient Benin war regalia,c.15th-19th century.

It shows the inspiration with seen alternatives while trying to preserving the original idea.

Just as it's wrong to label Greek culture as Roman culture or British culture as India culture. It's same way it's absolutely wrong to label clear edo culture as "Yoruba", these are two distinct people and heritage.

Stop attributing edo culture as Yoruba, it's wrong, Nigeria has more than 200 ethnicity and each has it distinct identity, different from Yoruba...

If what you have is Propaganda and Thoughts, make it clear. Because if you call it “history” and direct it to Benin, you will be reminded that we are a people who live by history and know even the accurate histories of all our neighbors - or at least we have the energy to dig into what we didn’t consider as relevant.

I can boldly say that the Ẹdo people of Great Benin Kingdom are some of the most detailed people in terms of historical references that you shouldn’t come to spread Wikipedia false claims to in Africa (not Nigeria, Africa) or, so to say, your confident ignorance.

I just listened to my brother, Ọviẹnzowọba on TikTok on the attacks from Yoruba people on his post while telling his own Ẹdo history.

Clearly also, with all the posts I made recently for proofs to be shared that “Yoruba Gave Benin Its Kingship”, “The Ọba of Benin Is Yoruba”, “Ẹdo People Are Yoruba”, etc, there aren’t actually basic historical & chronological facts presented other than “TRUST ME BRO” and insults.

With all that, we have come to a simple understanding that many WAZOBIA people live with the colonial mindset passed unto them by Britain: Tell People Their Own History.

This mindset still exists till date that these WAZOBIA people feel offended that you have the guts to tell your history differently from what they have struggled through decades to define for you. “HOW DARE YOU TELL US DIFFERENTLY WHAT WE HAVE TOLD YOU TO ACCEPT?”

Unfortunately, history isn’t a gift given from Colonial Masters to Ass-Kissers. History is lived through time and chronological references.

We Ẹdo people accept you for being Yoruba or Igbo or any tribe you choose to identify as and accept how you wish to define your own history. But we reject any encroachment into Ẹdo history and your attempts to force down our throats what you want us to accept as our own history.

Within Ẹdo State, for example, even as close as the Esan people, some say they are not Ẹdo but Esan. We do not force them. It’s your choice to identify as you want and tell your own history. Again, so far it doesn’t not mean twisting Ẹdo history to clean up yours.

There have been tribes who say they trace their origins to Great Benin. It’s their history to tell. We do not force them and we do not project against their defined identities.

I will encourage every Ẹdo person to stop engaging culture and history vultures, and focus on the continued efforts of building on the legacies of our Ancestors.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN TELL THESE CULTURE VULTURES ABOUT YOUR HISTORY BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE HISTORY BUT, HOW DARE YOU TELL IT AGAINST THE WAY THEY TOLD YOU TO TELL YOUR OWN HISTORY? So, you will be wasting your time and fueling their energies when you have to argue your history with them. It isn’t about history to them, it is about SUPERIORITY. This is definitely our derived conclusion.

We await the day the British museum officially handover the more than 800yrs Benin bronzes to the Oba of Benin Kingdom.

If you’re Ẹdo, raise your shoulders so high, for your culture and history aren’t conquered. They live on.

Be Proud, for you can trace your family lineage and family greetings to thousands of years unchanged.

Be Proud, for you can trace the lineage of your ONLY Throne and culture to thousands of years with consistency.

Be Proud, for your forefathers fought against the world’s biggest military in 1897 rather than being “yes-boys”.

Be Proud, for not a single person of your tribe was enslaved or sold as slave in the history of the world.

Be Proud, for you’re too big to steal anyone’s culture to replace yours because yours is authentic enough.

Be Proud, for your language has been yours - unchanged - since 40BC.

Be Proud, for you are a warrior in body and spirit, yet choose peace until provoked.

Be Proud, for your history remains an authentic story told globally. Your forefathers made artifacts that are some of what Africa is celebrated for till tomorrow.

Once in a while, just wear your Okuku (as a woman) and Udeguọghọ bead (as a man) and celebrate your Red Ẹdo Blood, for you aren’t a conquered African tribe.

Let anyone on earth tell you what they want but you wear your Ẹdo Pride with joy and let those around you learn that you know yourself!

Yes, many are envious of you and your forefather’ achievements. Yes, many are jealous of you because you continue to build on Enikaro’s legacy. Yes, many are angry about how you carry yourself and what aura your presence speaks.

Yes, you’re industrious; you’re not a beggar, you’re not a terrorist.

You’re Igodomigodo (40BC till date). You’re Ubini (1100s till date). You’re Ẹdo (1400s till Date)! Non of the names were given to you by colonizers but your own ancestors. Benin came about from corrupting Ubini by our trade partners - the Portuguese. You’ve been here since forever!
