New data: the gender wage gap narrowed in 2025 — but here's the full picture.

Women working full-time, year-round earned 83.9 cents for every dollar men earned in 2025, up from 80.6 cents in 2024. But this isn't the win it looks like on the surface. This happened because women's earnings grew faster than men's during a high-cost economy where every household member has to work as much as possible just to keep up.
Women still earn less than men, but their lower earnings grew at a higher rate.

The wage gap is still real. The affordability crisis is still real. Read our full statement: https://t.co/upHP3tFiou

The federal government just made a choice about whose health matters.

HHS has terminated 16 grants worth $38 million—programs supporting maternal and infant health, postpartum care, and infant mortality prevention. Many of these programs served the communities carrying the heaviest burden of this crisis: Black mothers and infants, who die from pregnancy-related causes at rates far above the national average.

Their new priority? Low sperm count and erectile dysfunction. Mothers and infants deserve better than being an afterthought.

Labor Day is a reminder: Unions are essential for gender equity.

Unions give workers a voice on the job and can help advance better wages, benefits, workplace protections, and economic security for women.

Gloria Steinem was a fierce fighter, a witty writer, and a tireless champion of equity and justice. As a journalist, activist, and feminist icon, she challenged the status quo and will be remembered for the trails she blazed in the name of progress. A steadfast defender of reproductive autonomy, she helped women gain and build economic security while growing political power. Gloria believed deeply in the importance of women owning and telling their own stories, ensuring that their experiences would never be diminished, overlooked, or swept under the rug.

In her lifetime, Gloria saw both immense progress and devastating backsliding, and through it all she never stopped fighting. In her 2022 Wesleyan University commencement address, she said, “I am a hope-a-holic. I believe that hope is a form of planning.”

That is the essence of what we must all continue to do to ensure that the gender equity Gloria spent her life championing becomes a full and lasting reality.

This year, both #BlackWomensEqualPayDay and #MomsEqualPayDay were reminders of how systemic barriers can widen wage gaps and compound inequities.

This is especially true when looking at the experience of care workers, disproportionately women of color who contend with persistent undervaluing of their work. Read more:

How can you address employment discrimination if you don’t have the necessary data?

The EEOC’s dangerous attempt to remove a crucial workplace demographic report will make it harder to prevent hiring, pay, and promotion discrimination against women and minority groups. Read more about why IWPR opposes the proposed rule: https://t.co/trhNw9gr2B

July's jobs report delivered a shock: 23,000 jobs lost. But the real story is who's feeling it—steep cuts to public education jobs and a slowdown in health care wage and job growth signal deepening trouble for working-class workers. $450 billion. According to @IWPResearch, that’s the total amount of annual foregone earnings of all mothers with young children.

Moms are the backbone of our economy, but they shoulder a disproportionate amount of unpaid family care, often forcing them to reduce their workforce participation. It’s time to extend paid leave rights to all Americans. #MomsEqualPayDay

Moms spend 167% more time focused on child care than fathers, and that comes with a stiff financial penalty.

They’re more likely to reduce their workforce participation, missing out on an average of $16,516 a year, as of 2023.
