A terrifying amount of unhappiness is completely self-inflicted.

Not because life is easy.

But because we keep doing things that make a difficult life even heavier.

We rehearse hatred toward people who are probably sleeping peacefully.

We worry about tomorrow as if anxiety is some kind of advance payment on disaster.

We chase more money, more status, more attention, more everything...

Then wonder why our minds never shut up.

We expect people to behave exactly how we imagined they would.

Then punish ourselves when they turn out to be human.

And perhaps the strangest one:

We keep waiting for happiness to arrive after life finally gives us enough.

Enough money.

Enough success.

Enough certainty.

Enough validation.

It never does.

Because happiness is rarely about adding another thing.

More often, it comes from removing something.

Less resentment.

Less worry.

Less expectation.

Less unnecessary complexity.

And replacing it with things that don’t look impressive online.

Forgiveness.

Generosity.

A genuine smile.

People you love.

Quiet moments.

Faith.

Gratitude for something ordinary that you would desperately miss if it disappeared tomorrow.

That’s the part nobody wants to hear.

You can spend decades improving the circumstances of your life while never improving the experience of being alive.

So yes, work hard.

Want more.

Build something extraordinary.

But don’t become so obsessed with creating a better future that you become incapable of enjoying an ordinary Tuesday.

A successful life that you never learned to enjoy is still a wasted life.
