“Blessings not just for the ones who kneel… luckily.”
— U2, City of Blinding Lights
Jesus: “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
— Matthew 5:45 (NIV)
Bono reminds us that divine grace and mercy are not rewards reserved for the devout or the kneeling — they are extravagant gifts poured out for all. Just as the sun rises and rain falls without checking credentials or measuring worthiness, true blessing flows beyond our postures of piety, inviting even the broken, the sinners, and the far-off into its light. God’s love refuses to be gatekept. It levels the ground beneath the radiant city — and it can blind even the worst of us, like Paul on the road to Damascus. Luckily.
“My time I divide as follows: the one half I sleep; the other half I dream. I never dream when I sleep; that would be a shame, because to sleep is the height of genius.”
