There are some professions that no one should enter merely for a pay check, no matter their financial situation. Medicine. Writing. Journalism. And here I zero in on journalism.
For journalism, the worse the country, the higher the stakes. It is like going to war because one of the things a journalist does is shine a light exactly where power wants darkness. Power like mold needs darkness and it will fight to keep the shadows that let it grow unchecked.
If you are not ready for that fight, find another job. The very stability of society depends on this. It is irresponsible to occupy this space while being too afraid to do what it demands, just like becoming a surgeon when you cant stand the sight of blood.
Nigerian journalists cannot continue the way they have been carrying on if the country is to survive. They cannot remain peddlers of gossip, collators of tweets and Facebook posts, transcribers of quotes, and disseminators of press releases dressed up as news.
How much is ideal for a competition for undergraduates? 1.5m? 15m? What is the figure? Until one answers this, there's no basis for "unpleasant look".
Would you pay 10k for sweet because you are worth a billion?
Obi mentioned why he didn't build an airport. Onitsha is close to Asaba, Awka is close to Enugu Airport. There's also Sam Mbakwe in Imo State. Most of Anambra get to those Airports in < 1 hr. But they said he no wise. Now see where we are
Permit me to digress a bit. I criticized the Anambra airport when it was built. I talked about the location. I talked about the viability. I was dragged from Awka to Nnewi. Some people told me that the Onitsha traders will be using the airport. I laughed.
Asaba Airport is still preferred by those Onitsha traders. Go and verify.
One day, all these governors will tell us why they love building airports.
Am so tired of listening to gaslighters who refuse to admit that Peter Obi is an impressive man who has millions of fans because he deserves admiration and a chance to run Nigeria.
Nobody is a saint. And I’m sure PO has weaknesses and has made mistakes. But even if all of the criticisms his enemies throw at him are true, he still has a MUCH better character, reputation, track record and modus operandi than Tinubu.
PO has never been fined for drug dealing in America or anywhere else. He has a very frugal lifestyle. And he possesses genuine entrepreneurial skills.
He got rich long before he became a governor via honest hard work and without resorting to corruption and crime.
Frying akara on the roadside with naked flame is not what anyone should be doing.
What people need is jobs. The government snd their functionaries should focus on creating actual jobs, not sending people to go and fry akara; that’s not a job abeg.
People underestimate the profits from petty trading with little capital supports by way of grants or loan. That’s why someone would think supporting Kuli-kuli , akara and roasted corn business is ridiculous. Many of you need to come down from your high horses and face the reality.
So @PeterObi has now filed defamation charges against @realkenokonkwo?
Let’s be honest, this is a very bad and ill-advised move.
If @officialABAT decides tomorrow to file defamation charges against everyone who has insulted, criticized, or “barked” at him on this app, how many people will be in court? The entire X space would turn into a courtroom.
This is exactly the kind of intolerance and pettiness we criticize Tinubu for. Using the legal system to silence critics, even those within your own political family, is not strength. It is weakness.
A true leader should be able to absorb criticism, especially from people who once supported him. Filing lawsuits against former allies only makes you look insecure and vindictive.
This is not the “different kind of politician” we were promised.
Ire o!
a good middle manager looks like a guy who just drinks coffee and forwards emails, but his actual job is secretly absorbing insane executive requests so the team can just do their work
@JudeFeranmi@OoTheNigerian@biolakazeem They can't manifest in a government than doesn't align with that kind of change. Which is why PO should be held up as the kind of template we want as a society. Currently, modeling the right behavior isn't popular. That's why a person like PO helps others come forward
@JudeFeranmi@OoTheNigerian@biolakazeem This is an ideal. Real life doesn't deal in ideals. The point of a PO is to serve as template to those who implement bottom-up change. Who can tell people "go" & they go because they know he'd do same if positions were switched. That's what the original post was talking about
Dangote built the refinery no one else could build so he deserves to charge Nigerians whatever he decides?
Isn't that the argument?
If people complain, it's "go and build your own"
You are all truly insane.
Dangote was adjusting his fuel price in real time when it was rallying but now dragging feet to adjust now that’s it’s on a downward spiral. If you like keep kissing the ass of these billionaires who are doing all they possibly can to impoverish you. A lot of you kuku no get sense.
