Pattani FC are closer to Penang than every Malaysia Super League club bar Immigration, who play in Perlis.

This season, they'll travel 18,323 km to visit every T1 ground. For context, the world record for the longest single away trip in top-flight domestic football is 9,689 km — set in the 2007 Russian Premier League between Vladivostok and Krasnodar, crossing multiple time zones in one fixture.

Even in Europe's outliers, the longest trip I can find is Spain's La Liga 2, where UD Las Palmas to FC Andorra is about 2,200 km.

The MLS has potential candidates — Vancouver v Miami at around 4,500 km tops the list — but due to the two-conference setup, these fixtures don't occur every season.

Australia's A-League is currently the king of long-haul football. The traditional Distance Derby — Perth to Wellington — is 5,255 km, roughly an 8-9 hour flight. Perth to Auckland, since their expansion, is 5,343 km, the longest single away trip in world football right now. With most teams on the East Coast of Australia, those three clubs are making (and requiring their visitors) regular long-haul road trips.

It's the geography that could count against Pattani. Their trip to Chiang Rai alone is 1,826 km — individually, not a major player in the world of long-haul football. But they've got fifteen away trips, all starting from their isolated location, presenting fifteen different challenges. Prachuap at 764 km is the shortest, but it shows the logistics involved — there are no direct flights from the south to Hua Hin. Train: 13 hours on old rolling stock. Bus: 12 hours to the Sam Ao Stadium from Pattani. Or fly to Bangkok and ride a bus for another four hours.

There's no world record category for what Pattani are being asked to do next season. But it's about as tough a logistical challenge as you'll find.
