On the day after an election, I hope Jesus followers remember that political engagement is so much more than voting.
It is fighting against injustice.
It is advocating and mobilizing.
Most of all, it is fulfilling our Gospel imperative to care for the most vulnerable among us.
if we’re going to take Christian nationalist rhetoric seriously then we are supposed to believe that having an abortion for any reason is murdering your child but Herschel Walker who paid to have his child murdered (and lied about it) is the clear “Christian” choice?
Our Christian religion is being co-opted for the sake of power and control over our culture.
Where Jesus chose to save us by his grace and mercy, Christianity is being used to coerce and control people into conformity.
This is what it looks like to take Christ’s name in vain.
It needs to break our hearts more than it does that we currently live in a time when our culture witnesses us Christians becoming more outraged by the presence of masks or certain books in our children’s schools than we do over the presence of gun violence.
