It should be illegal to dox a juror the way some news outlets are currently doxxing the Clancy holdout juror. It is wrong and will deter future potential jurors.
I don't think the Lindsay Clancy debate is over whether or not it's "ok to kill your kids." It's been relentlessly framed that way by many, but I don't think it's actually true.
Lindsay Clancy supporters don't think killing your kids is ok. They think it's a horrific tragedy that she didn't mean to do and didn't want to do. That's why they (foolishly, unjustly) want to show her empathy and mercy.
I think they're wrong. I think they're deluded, misguided, detached from reality, detached from proper emotion by SSRIs, etc., but I don't think they're this homicidal horde that the internet had gotten so worked up over.
I don't think it matters if Lindsay wanted to or meant to kill her kids, by the way. She did kill them, so she should face full justice for it. I oppose the insanity plea across the board even if I believed her psychosis story, which I don't. But I'm not on the jury.
If the verdict comes down not what it should be, I really don't think it's a moral or legal apocalypse. It wouldn't be the first insanity plea, and it wouldn't be the first famous trial to be decided unjustly.
But pray for the jury that they get it right.
no millennial trope has broken more brains than "you don't owe anybody anything". an ignoble, selfish narcissism dressed up in therapy-speak about boundaries and self-care in order to give yourself a pass from treating other people with a basic level of care and respect
Multiple things can be true at once:
1. It is true that Alex Pretti raised the risk of a negative outcome by intervening after an ICE agent pushed a female protester. It is true that he heightened the risk further by conceal carrying a firearm, and even further by resisting once he was thrown down and pummeled.
2. It is true that “he should have stayed home” is not legal justification for him being shot, nor is the fact that he was carrying. Conservatives should be very careful about repeating Kristi Noem’s suggestion that the mere act of carrying a weapon, however ill-advised in the circumstances, is proof of intent to harm law enforcement or “massacre.” Adopting that train of thought is a very slippery slope attack on the Second Amendment.
3. It could be true that the ICE agents who killed Pretti today believed their lives were in danger even if they weren’t. One agent can be heard saying “gun!” The agent who removed the gun from Pretti’s waistband appears to have had a ND of the gun (fired by accident). Either of those two things could have set off panic in the chaos of the moment.
4. It could be true that even if justified, agents acted less than ideally. Again, there is a difference between justified and necessary (or appropriate). It seems pretty apparent now that the agents weren’t actually in danger. The gun had been removed from Pretti’s waistband prior to shots being fired.
5. It could be true that Antifa and other agitators are engaged in tactics to deliberately provoke agents. And also that ICE agents should be trained to better handle that threat.
All of these things could be simultaneously true.
My unsolicited 2 cents, not that it matters.
Multiple things can be true at the same time:
- the guy had a right to carry but not interfere or obstruct federal officers
- it looks to be a bad shoot based on available info but that doesn’t mean ICE should pack up and go home.
- this all could have been avoided if local and national politicians and organizations stopped throwing gas on the flames and allowed federal immigration laws to be enforced.
Things that are true at the same time imho:
—The shooting of Alex Pretti was an unjustified tragedy I don’t care what his politics are he is an American with constitutional rights
—Walz is a baffoon using his own citizens as pawns in a game of civil war to distract from fraud and other political problems
—Noem is incompetent and lied about the shooting to spin a false narrative and should be fired and replaced immediately
—ICE needs to level up the professionalism (process, marked uniforms/vehicles, lose the masks) or will lose credibility to do their job
—MN mobs following people around accusing them of being ICE, storming church’s and directly antagonizing ICE agents are wrong
—Trump admin needs to deescalate and chart a path to cooperation with local MN law enforcement the way they are in other states
—Biden admin let 10M+ illegal immigrants in without vetting and now we have a huge mess on our hands and deserve a ton of blame
Apparently this needs to be said, but...
You can be against ICE abuse of power AND against illegal violent offenders at the same time.
It’s called adult-level reasoning.
Wild stuff, I know.
