Found another Purple Emperor on my bike ride this morning - thought I'd try and take a short video to show how the purpleness varies with viewing angle. Camera on my phone produces surprisingly good results.

I think today might be the first day this year when we've had decent weather and I've not been at work. So an early start and a good walk - managed to track down my first Goshawks and Hawfinches of the year.

@elliotthorton Thanks! SPTA east is where I usually go - and where all my SEO photos are from this year. Basically the areas near Everleigh. Having said that, the owls seem a bit more spread out than previous years and I’ve seen reports from SPTA centre and west too.

@Philips56233736 Two were out in the area near the Barn Owl with the light was still ok, and I could see two more through the bins in the distance - but they didn't show until light was rather poor. But all were covering quite large areas - maybe because the wind has dropped at last.

Back out on Salisbury Plain this afternoon. 4 Short Eared Owls and the Barn Owl about. And this time, managed to get photos of both.

My first sight this Autumn of a Hen Harrier on Salisbury this afternoon. Whizzed by high and fast in the wind. Also had brief glimpses of one Short Eared Owl and a Merlin.
