Radisson - yesterday we banded Ella's & Pandemic's chicks. Watching them on the cam, I thought we could have 3 males & 1 female, but holy peregrines, was I wrong. 4 very sturdy females - look out Dad!

As you can see, we cleaned the inside camera - the girls did a wonderful job making a mess. They don't have a problem with their aim!

When will we switch the cam view you ask? Chicks will likely be in & out over the next week or two, we'll play it by ear.

Radisson - folks have noticed a) images are a little "foggy" in the nestbox & b) the chicks aren't visible all the time. Answers: a) chicks pooped on the camera - we'll clean at banding on the wknd & b) the kids are safe on the balcony - they'll be going in/out now.

Radisson - like clockwork, Ella has laid a 2nd egg - she has a thing about the middle of the night so finding the video sometimes takes a while. Egger was laid at 0125h CT this morning. Ella then napped on the eggs for 5 hours & 22 minutes.

Radisson - thank you Mother Nature, your timing was spectacular. After 2 excruciating weeks of bowing & scraping on the east nestledge, snow & freezing rain drove Ella & Pandemic back to the nestbox & as of 0417h this morning we have our first egg, nice & safe & dry.

After a few days of wandering, Pandemic is back & he's not alone. Seems he found a ladyfriend on his travels. They reappeared on Mar 20th & since she is unbanded, I've decided to call her Equinox (easy mnemonic). Very striking bird w her full black cap.

Radisson - we install nestboxes to provide more protection for the peregrines. Chick mortality due to cold/wet is huge. This image shows how even a small roof can help keep the rain away which makes it easier for Ella/Pandemic to keep their little family warm & safe.

Radisson - hard to know for sure from this angle (looking down from above) but I think this is Ella sitting on the west side Radisson sign directly beneath the nestbox. Breezy (hence the feather fluffing) & shady, the spot is perfect on our warmest day so far in 2025.

Radisson - Pandemic dropped off a meal as a gift to his mate - part of their spring courtship ritual. Didn't take long for Hazel to devour it!

Radisson - with the high winds I've only very occasionally seen glimpses of the birds but this morning is very different. Hazel & Pandemic (I believe) are thoroughly enjoying the morning sun on the Alt Hotel. True sign of fall, usually this spot is too warm in the sun.

Radisson - Pandemic has been hanging around the Hotel most, but Solstice does come in, usually noisily at which point, he bolts. She is hunting, perhaps unwillingly, now, but she is ever hopeful that one of her parents will take pity on her & provide a wee snack.
