We are raising £25k to keep our wonderful workshop and key programmes going throughout the winter and beyond.
Any support is hugely welcomed, so please donate, spread the word and help to keep us, and Oxford, pedalling! https://t.co/uow4PxtiiS
I will no longer be posting on this account. This is because Elon Musk has made this site unpleasant to use and because I do not want to be associated with his product. Thank you all for years of community, laughs, music, and learning.
I'm usually the biggest fan of @restisents and often find I'm persuaded by their intelligent and informed takes.
However... just this once I struggled. On the subject of this platform what we are on and the number of people who have decided it's no longer for them and have 1/12
Anyway the main (somewhat petty) reason I haven't deleted this account is that I don't want someone else to be j4 on here. Still sad that I couldn't get the same username on bsky.
This has been my experience of Twitter too, EXCEPT that increasingly when I look at the replies to the nice/interesting people (you might reasonably ask: why do I do that??) it's all racists, transphobes, antivaxxers, and other varieties of asshole.
I don't really understand why people are leaving Twitter. My experience of the site hasn't changed at all. I follow interesting people, interact with nice ones and if they're both nice and local turn them into real-life friends. If they're unpleasant, I block, end of story.
And yes, I do know how to block, I even theoretically know how to Not Read The Comments, but "I like hanging out here even though all the nice people routinely get harassed here! I know how to look away from the nastiness" is not a position I'm very comfortable with.
This, not Skynet, is the kind of thing that makes me think AI will kill us all. Teach a highly verbal, interactive adaptive reinforcement algorithm with no evolutionary guardrails to assuage your fragile psyche, and then subscribe to Siren Jr. for your kids.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at every meeting involved in the making, pricing, and aisle placement of the $44.97 WalMart Skibidi Mystery Surprise Toilet
