The young US Air Force controllers of the 374th Operations Support Squadron didn't call Washington for permission.
They didn't ask for diplomatic forms.
They grabbed their headsets and barked into the frequency:

“Cleared to land, Yokota Runway 36!”

One after another, giant Boeing 747s and 777s dropped out of the storm clouds and slammed their tires onto the American military strip.
ELEVEN massive commercial airliners in rapid succession.
Over 3,000 civilian lives saved from fuel starvation in a matter of minutes.

Even while severe aftershocks rocked the control tower, your airmen stayed at their radar scopes, spacing giant civilian jets inches apart on a crowded military tarmac.
Below them, off-duty American airmen sprinted onto the freezing apron with marshalling wands, bringing water, blankets, and diapers to thousands of stranded passengers.

They broke the red tape in seconds.
Because when thousands of innocent lives are hanging in the sky, American airmen don't look at rulebooks.
They clear the runway.

I used to be a Democrat because I was raised to believe they were for the poor people. But as I got older and noticed that they really were not trying to get the poor of us out of poverty but to keep us beholden to the crumbs from the table so we would not let go and to work bettering our selves.
