investment banker and common-sense conservative. When I’m not analysing markets, you’ll find me at Dorsia having dinner. I’m also a big Phil Collins fan
@LBC@lewis_goodall I’m white British and live in Tower Hamlets. In the last 4 years I’ve twice been called a “white c*nt.” Anti-white discrimination exists and it exists in London
Even by your standards, Zarah, that’s an unbelievably retarded suggestion. Can you think of the security burden that would put on a regular comprehensive school? Eton has the experience so it makes sense. Also sorry to disappoint you but we will not be abolishing the monarchy any time soon; the King proved himself to be a diplomatic superweapon recently and the British royal family represent both continuity and tradition which is something you know nothing about. Also your communist dystopia will take place literally over my dead body. I suggest you give up your form of pathetic student politics with all its silly stunts and get a proper job. I think you’ll be looking for work in 2029 anyway so might as well learn the ropes at McDonald’s now, eh?
I agree. I have a zero tolerance attitude to savagery and jihadists trying to murder anyone in the UK, particularly if the perpetrators are foreign nationals and the evidence of guilt appears overwhelming. In such cases why should we pay for them to go to prison? Perhaps that will also send a very strong message out beyond our shores to those coming to here who wish us harm?
In England and Wales, the average cost of keeping a prisoner in jail is currently about £54,000–£57,000 per year (depending on which official measure is used.) That’s £148–£156 per day. Our jails are currently full to capacity and to build another 1,500 capacity prison UK would cost approximately £1bn that we don’t really have. One in eight prisoners in UK prisoners are foreign born. (Albanians top that list at 11% which is hardly surprising given they have aggressively taken over the UK c0caine trade and have well-established global criminal networks.) My point is that we have quite enough British-born criminals to keep our prisons busy so it is absolute insanity to be importing foreign-born murderers.rapists, jihadists and other career criminals. I’d argue it is not racist to apply very stringent vetting of those who apply for asylum (although that task in itself is very difficult if they have deliberately thrown away all documentation). In fact, I would argue it is not only prudent to have stringent vetting but financially essential unless you happen to believe that the UK’s credit rating being reduced to junk and a debt crisis is not really a big deal. (But you might well change your mind about that when your mortgage rate leaps from 4% to 14% or even 40% as a consequence.)
I would also send out the message to all migrants that before you are granted citizenship in UK then we regard as you being on a probationary period so if you get found guilty of any crime then you’ll be deported the next day and if you want to appeal then you make your appeal outside the UK. I’m fed up of people thinking the UK is some kind of sanctuary for the congenitally feral where things are so lax you can basically do whatever the f*ck you want and I also blame successive British governments for creating that atmosphere. It is costing us a fortune to keep migrant offenders in prison and we can’t afford it plus they come out of prison a more proficient criminal. I think there’s some truth in the suggestion “They do it because we let them do it.” Radical suggestion: stop letting them do it then maybe? Also, I’d probably say “if you turn up to this country with no papers or false papers then that’s a definite red flag and we wont accept you. Apologies if you genuinely lost your documents but them's the rules because lots of people abused the old rules.” Once we've left the ECHR the Rwanda scheme could be revised for those 'unfortunate' folks and I would wager a fair bit of money that soon after that noone will turn up claiming asylum without valid documents. Also that we won’t be polluting the English Channel with discarded documents. Again, we’re letting that happen.
@BhattiLaib9960 Poached eggs, I believe. If you inspect closely enough you might find some rashers of bacon and maybe even a pork sausage. Voila! Breakfast is served…
@TooRelatable2u@KobeissiLetter Another armchair geopolitical analyst, huh? You interning at the Pentagon, buddy? I bet y’all working on Operation Cigar Smoke: Hegseth’s secret plan to blow up the whole of Cuba with a ray gun designed by Palmer Luckey and that runs on Tesla batteries
Today u sold all my worldly possessions and put it all into the Trump meme coin. Last night I prayed to God and my prayer was answered. Also I remember Donald on The Apprentice (season 3) stressing the importance of “being all in.” If you are all in then you will never fail. Such wisdom from Donald there. 💯🙏💰💰
I’m so glad you’ve spoken up, Rupert, and I also stand by every word you’ve said. What you’ve stated is 100% true but the truth has been covered up by the political establishment because it is politically inconvenient. A vast section of the indigenous white female population of the UK has been subjected to systematic sexual torture over decades by men of predominantly Pakistani origin. The fact that government, police and the agencies that should have protected those girls and young women did absolutely nothing and instead chose to throw them under the bus poses serious, existential questions about how we view our indigenous white population. It appears many of us have contracted a lethal virus of self-hatred while simultaneously bending over backwards to excuse the behaviour of a small alien minority who wish unimaginable harm upon us. It is time to wake up. We need someone like you, Rupert, to continue speaking uncomfortable truths to those in power. I give you my full trust simply because there is no one else courageous enough to do what you’re doing.
@afneil I think Nick Ferrari demonstrated how Diame struggles with basic maths so not surprising she doesn’t understand gilt yields and bond market dynamics
It is but for Labour it is equivalent to Seppuku. Also we are getting into a vicious cycle: we have high debt so gilt yields are high making servicing the debt expensive but governments seem unable to cut spending or stimulate economy which in turn creates dissatisfaction/political instability which pushes up gilt yields and we repeat this downward cycle until we have a debt crisis and eventually become a failed state
@DukeofViseu@afneil Scotland is famous for 5 things…
1. The greatest football manager who ever lived
2. Scotch eggs
3. Vicious sectarian hatred
4. Murder
5. Whisky
3 and 4 are often related but, to my knowledge, 2 and 3 aren’t.
@afneil Can she pass *The Polanski Test* though?
“What’s the difference between the debt and the deficit, Mr Polanski? Clue: this is an economics question so please avoid using the words ‘hope’ or ‘compassion’ in your answer.”
Your post is a stew of mistruths and MAGA nonsense, Joshua. Im in London so let me give you the view from across the pond, buddy. The US was once a great ally but ever since Jan ‘25 you appear unstable, unpredictable and unreliable. In the Greenland debacle, you threatened to attack the sovereign territory of a fellow European nation. You have constantly slandered European leaders using language which is undiplomatic, unacceptable and necessarily, You have imposed tariffs in what amounts to a hostile trade policy. Without any apparent strategy or consultation with partners (except Israel), you started a war in Iran which has resulted in the closure of the Strait Of Hormuz leading to higher oil prices globally and with no resolution in sight. (You are also now threatening to bomb civilian infrastructure in Iran which constitutes a war crime.) You complained about NATO not coming to the rescue without appearing to understand that NATO always was and is a *defensive* alliance formed for protecting Europe’s eastern borders from Russian aggression. You have emboldened Putin and his war machine by removing oil sanctions thus funding killing machine at a point at which the Russian economy was beginning to look shaky. Now you say you might pull out of NATO to which I reply “Go ahead. We will draw up the paperwork for this divorce because, sadly, you are not an ally we can work with or rely upon any more, Europe is capable of providing its own security.” But know this: the US has more than 40 military bases in Europe which includes bases like Ramstein in Germany, a critical air hub housing over 16,000 personnel from which America projects its power into Africa, the Middle-East and beyond. You appear to see NATO as only benefiting Europe but the truth is that we permit you to operate these bases because we were once part of a valuable partnership but if this partnership ends then so does your right to use these facilities and your geopolitical reach will be greatly diminished. Your greatest adversary, China, would be most happy with this outcome, If you want to pursue America First and America Alone then go ahead but you cannot expect to call on former allies you have disparaged. It brings me no satisfaction to tell you that your president is a buffoon whose every act only seems to besmirch both the office of POTUS and the reputation of a great nation. I feel deeply sorry for those who buy into his bullshit and it is still a mystery to me how half of America could be so easily conned by a man whose previous career is a litany of egoistic failures. But your predecessors who built America’s hegemony did so by appreciating the enormous value of strategic alliances and partnerships and those partnerships have served American interests well since 1945. We would like to continue to work with US but we are not vassal states and we will not be a part of acts of naked aggression or war crimes.
@mattwridley@AllisonPearson Lately when I hear or watch Ed Miliband I’m always perturbed by his zealotry. All rationality has gone out the window and so much of what he says is clearly nonsensical. In net zero, he has effectively founded his own lunatic cult in which he’sDavid Koresh. This will not end well
@darrengrimes The fact he is talking like a madman underlines that his position is not rational but ideological. UK industrial electricity prices are among the highest in the world: over 40% higher than the IEA median!! Who would want to emulate this?? Net zero is dangerous fantasy
