There are many fewer farms and farmers than there were 100 years ago, but current farms are much larger and more mechanized. Back in the 1960's and 70's when I was in the Navy, due to a rise in Arab nationalism, we were instructed to use Arabian Gulf if dealing with Arab states along the gulf (Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc.) If dealing with the rest of the world, we used Persian Gulf. Currently Iran is not our ally, hence Arabian Gulf.
