Shoutout to Illinois for being the first US state to do this! A great first step that must be accompanied by ensuring we fund mental health resources, too.
Today, I'm proud to sign into law legislation that provides universal mental health screenings for children in Illinois public schools.
If kids are struggling with anxiety or depression — it’s our duty to ensure they have the support they need to get the help they deserve.
- we gotta keep living for the kids who don't know that they're allowed to grow up and that there's a wonderful sense of understanding and family in the queer community that will embrace them even when it seems like the world doesn't right now. Damn. Life is crazy (2/2)
Healthcare isn’t just for the privileged few in big cities. It’s for the woman who strangles a rabid fox because she has nowhere else to go. It’s for the farmer with a heart attack and no other option. It’s for everyone, or it’s for no one.
“Doctors shouldn’t be involved in politics”
Doctors got political on tobacco and lung cancer deaths decreased.
Doctors got political about seatbelts - and cars are no longer the #1 killer of children, guns are.
Now it’s time for doctors to get political about guns.
@jtrebach
Couldn’t disagree more. We owe it to our patients to fight for affordable medications, reproductive rights, accessible insurance for everyone, and to be the public voice of science. Doctors need to be truth tellers about the benefits of vaccines and the horrors of gun violence.
