Here is what I believe.
We have been separated by people who profit from our separation.
That is the business model. Keep us apart and sell us the fight.
Here is what that separation does.
People stop talking. They stop talking, so they stop knowing each other. They stop knowing each other, so they fear each other. They fear each other, so they hate each other. You break that chain at the first link, not the last.
I also believe there is one true existential threat to this democracy and his name is Donald Trump.
So I will sit down with anyone who has a platform and sees in Trump what I see.
That is why I sat down with Nick Fuentes. His views on race and women are antithetical to mine. What he has said about the Holocaust and Nazism is indefensible. He is also demonstrably persuasive and he has a bullhorn that no amount of cancellation has taken from him. A million-plus people listen to him. I wanted to hear it myself instead of reading what I am supposed to think about it.
Nick and I agree on almost nothing. We agree on Trump.
Nothing else we argue about matters if Trump is not stopped. And the people who see what he is do not all think like me. If your standard is that everyone who opposes him has to agree with you first, you have already handed him the country.
I will take one piece of common ground over ten more years of shouting across the same street.
Billionaires want you fighting over pronouns while they purchase judges, politicians, newspapers and entire neighborhoods.
The culture war is camouflage for class war.
@atrupar This is legit nuts. Guy wants to make sure everyone knows ICE didn't "surrender" after an innocent American was killed. He's more concerned with the perception of ICE backing down than taking responsibility for the death of an innocent person.
Trump signed an executive order making it easier to fire 8,000 senior federal workers for any reason.
Trump calls it “schedule policy/career.”
We call it: firing the experts that keep your food safe, your air clean, & your drugs tested if they inconvenience or challenge him.
@ThePoliticsSnob He’s owed another $20 mil next year. He’ll keep showing up and doing his rehab stints as long as the check clears. Hal would have to have the cojones too cut him and eat the money. (He doesn’t)
The “democracy crisis” is almost nobody being able to afford the basic necessities of life, and yet America’s billionaire-owned political discourse being about literally everything other than this.
Look at the news and at your own algorithm-created social media feed — you’re getting all sorts of content that entertains you or makes you mad, but almost none of it is about why you can’t afford anything and what your political system might be able to do to fix that affordability crisis in your life.
THAT is the democracy crisis.
@AndrewYang Buddy- the only reason people know your name is because you promised them $2,000 a month from the government if you were elected president. What do you call that?
