Safety Starts With Me 🦺

Good morning everyone. A police officer recently spoke on TV about how boda boda riders risk their lives more on our roads, and honestly, I agree. As riders, we face many dangers every day.

However, road safety should be a two-way responsibility. We are told a boda boda is supposed to carry one passenger, and if a rider carries two passengers, police can arrest or fine them. But sometimes, these same officers are two people asking to be carried on one boda boda. They don’t seem to care about the safety rules when they are the passengers. If a rider refuses, what happens? They may still expect you to carry them.

The same rules should apply to everyone, whether you are a rider, passenger, or police officer. Safety should never depend on who is sitting on the motorcycle.

Our traffic officers also have an important role to play. They are supposed to lead by example and educate road users, not only focus on small bribes. I once encountered a traffic officer who stopped me and asked me to speed so she could catch a matatu after allegedly missing a KSh 100–200 payment. At that moment, I almost hit her. Safety was not the priority.

I respect our police and traffic officers, and I know many are doing a great job. But enforcement should always put life before money.
To my fellow boda boda riders, passengers, pedestrians, police officers and every road user: let’s protect one another. Wear your helmet, use reflectors, obey traffic rules and never encourage dangerous riding.

How can you hold a referendum to split something that doesn't legally exist?

Why don't people read the Constitution? "Mt. Kenya" is not a constitutional or administrative unit. It is a cultural and historical identity a community of people with a shared heritage, language, and sense of belonging. You cannot partition an identity through a referendum.

The argument that "Mt. Kenya West" has never supported "Mt. Kenya East" also falls apart when you look at history. During President Mwai Kibaki's administration, several of the most influential Cabinet positions were held by leaders from what is today referred to as Mt. Kenya East, including David Mwiraria, Kiraitu Murungi, Njeru Ndwiga, and Martha Karua. Their appointments did not trigger claims that one side of Mt. Kenya was dominating the other.
