Art Stapleton is "not so sure" that John Harbaugh brings in a veteran kicker for competition.

He adds that it's clear the Giants "wanted him [Dominic Zvada] here, he was a priority UDFA."

Giants Training Camp Day 7 thoughts

•Offense continues to be sloppy. Dart had 2 INT’s today and just seems late on stuff + holding on to the ball
•Focused on Francis Mauigoa & really liked what I saw. Works the run game so well
•Dominic Zvada 10/10 with a 56 yarder
•Raheem Layne with an INT & FF
•Elijah Campbell had an INT, couple PBU’s & plays on the limit with some of hits
•Odell with the best day that I’ve been here
•A lot of stunts today & Arvell Reese on the edge

John Harbaugh put the 2nd team defense on the field against Jaxson Dart’s first team offense today. The offense struggled early again but had some red zone period success and then steadied some, until he had to face the 1st team defense

Dart started practice 6-of-10 with two INTs in the 1st period (Raheem Layne, Elijah Campbell), and Cam Skattebo fumbled at the end of a long run (Layne forced it, Korie Black recovered). Dart had Xavier Gipson open deep and the ball hung too long, and new corner D.J. James broke it up

Dart had a better red zone period vs the second team defense. Dart completed 2 of 3 passes for 2 TDs (Mooney, Ricard), and Skattebo ran one in, too

Dart then completed 6 of 9 on his next two series vs the 2nd string D combined, including one down the field each deep in the 2nd level to JuJu and OBJ

In a final red zone period, Dart then had to face the first string defense. He went 1 of 3 with a sack and a false start against Andrew Thomas. Eventually the coaches moved the ball down to the 1-yard line anyway, and Dart hit Theo Johnson for a TD on a broken play against Tyler Nubin, who got picked on all day

This was the first day that Harbaugh seemed to mix 1st and 2nd teamers into different units at a regular clip, too.

Deonte Banks noticeably was playing opposite Greg Newsome today at corner while Adebo was often with the 2nd unit

Juju Smith-Schuster made the catch of the day in red zone, hauling in a Jameis Winston TD pass in tight coverage on the back line against Nubin. Dalen Cambre also made a nice downfield grab against Paulson Adebo from Jameis later

Jameis had his best day to date of this camp. He threw 6 red zone TDs, including two to Jalin Hyatt, although he did float a late INT to Art Green

Slot corner Dru Phillips went down with an apparent right knee injury. He got up eventually and jogged but is clearly injured. Will see what Harbaugh says there

Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada went a perfect 10-for-10 today. He is the clear better kicker on the roster, and it isn’t close

Brian Burns received a rest day, it appeared. He didn’t practice. Kayvon Thibodeaux took his spot. Rookie WR Malachi Fields was held out of team drills for a 2nd straight day
