The first edition of Vande Bharatam is over. For me, on this Independence Day there is no better reminder of what India is capable of.

26,000+ applications. Every state represented. Young founders, women entrepreneurs, rural innovators and remarkable problem-solvers from Tier 2 and 3 Bharat. All of them are winners and their journey has just begun.

What stays with me is the extraordinary depth of talent across this country.

I recently took my young grandchildren to the Marico Technology Centre, where they spent time understanding how everyday products are researched, tested and developed.

They made moisturisers, lip balms, protein bars and popcorn. They observed creams under a microscope, explored perfume development and experienced how consumer testing shapes product decisions.

Later, my granddaughter shared her learnings from the visit in her own words:
“Today I got to experience how different products are researched and developed.”

She wrote about learning what an emulsion is, observing a cream through a microscope, making a protein bar using natural ingredients and trying different hair care products in the consumer testing room.

Her concluding line captured the experience well:
“Overall, it was a fun and educational experience that gave me a glimpse into the science and research behind everyday products.”

For children, a product is usually something they use. Once they see what goes into creating it, they begin to understand the science, observation, experimentation and many small improvements behind it.

The purpose of such visits is not to direct them towards a particular career. It is to encourage curiosity, help them ask better questions and give them the confidence to explore how things are created.

A remarkable wedding in Kerala: twin brothers married twin sisters, with twin priests officiating and twin altar boys assisting. The couples had dreamt of a wedding surrounded by fellow twins since childhood- and they made it happen.

Big day at Mahindra University, Hyderabad!

We celebrated our 5th annual convocation ceremony today with 1,300 graduating students, joined by Rajiv Bajaj as our Chief Guest & Convocation speaker.

Fittingly, earlier in the day, Rajiv inaugurated the Bajaj Engineering Skills Training Centre at our School of Engineering. (As I noted in my speech, Rajiv is the maestro of brand leadership—the acronym for the centre is BEST! 🙂)

Deeply grateful to Rajiv for his vote of confidence in our University, for giving up his Sunday, and for inspiring our students with four personal stories that shaped his career and life philosophy.

We hope to welcome him back as a frequent visitor to campus!
