The Philippine Coast Guard is doing its duty under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. For a sitting Senator of the Republic to reduce that work this way is a betrayal of the dignity, responsibility, and national interest his office is supposed to uphold.
Senator Robin Padilla, with all due respect, our transparency initiative is not wartime propaganda. It is simply a means to expose Chinese aggression and harassment — particularly against our Filipino fishermen and our PCG and BFAR vessels. We do not create the incidents; we only document them.
Secondly, I believe it is an insult to the more than 26 million Filipinos who voted for you na tinanggap ninyo po na unggoy tayo.
This was hard but necessary. Rites of passage are often dangerous and risky. The psychology of belonging to something bigger will always push people to carry the risk. It's on people managing these rites to respect that, and importantly, own it when something goes wrong. That tells you something about the organization, and whether they are worth joining in the first place.
Oof. The direction to Baldwin was inward/protective, not inclusive towards the victim's families (see the line - players, coaches, staff, self). The move does not recognize Ateneo's responsibility to the parents/families of the victims. Which then prompted public outcry.
Still no apology. Two students under Admu's charge died during school-sanctioned activities (conditioning activites). investigation won't change that.
In any case, investigation should answer whether there was an appopriate risk assessment and identified risks mitigted by the school.
Faith and grace. Good governance.
Words that fail when leadership doesn't manifest.
There's no fixing this anymore. There is only what's next.
If it were up to me, I would start with a very public apology.
Schools have a duty of care over its students, athlete or not. If I was a parent of an Ateneo student (and I was for a short while) I would be very concerned as to how ADMU actually operationalizes this duty.
This is annoying because I see the political narratives taking over the situation and making their own plays. And it just makes me think of how the liberals have such a reputation for double standards. There's parallelisms in there I don't have sufficient words for.
On both ends are thousands of victims left unprotected by sovereign justice, while that same justice is now being invoked to shield the accused from international accountability.
Oh the irony that is Philippine politics.
Impunity is what happens when shootings become normal. First you hear it in the streets. Then you hear it in the Senate. Both reflect the weakening of democratic institutions in the Philippines.
This aged nicely I should say. Leni is working directly with the national government to improve disaster resilience in Naga, signalling her capacity to reach cross the aisle. Very presidential.
This, alongside other opposition strongholds. If good governance is key to economic development and justice, then a focus in delivering local growth should deliver in the long term. I hope this Duterte saga ends quickly. <galingan pa ng Marcos strategists, rooting for you>
