Quilibrium’s team finished testing the “QCL and consensus sidecar” last week, and they’re now ready to roll out a major update to the main network (mainnet) on April 14th, 2025, at midnight UTC. They’ll release the new software build on April 9th, giving people time to update their systems. This update, called “2.1,” involves a “shard-based model,” which means the way data is stored and managed will change a bit. If you’re running a basic setup, the upgrade should be easy, but if you’ve got a more custom system (like a cluster), you’ll need to follow a detailed guide they’ll share. There’s also a switch from using “libp2p” (a peer-to-peer system) to a new method with an extra port for better data streaming, especially since the old way was glitchy on Linux.

✅ QConsole: A Game-Changer Tool

Cassie then introduced QConsole, a tool she’s super excited about. Quilibrium’s big dream is to replace giants like Amazon Web Services (AWS), and QConsole is a step toward that. It’s designed to work like AWS’s S3 (a storage service) and Key Management Service (KMS), but with a twist for the decentralized world. QConsole lets you store files (like website data) and manage encryption keys securely. It’s easy to use—Cassie showed how you can drag and drop files into a “bucket” (a storage space) to host a simple website. She even demoed uploading Quilibrium’s own website files, which are currently on GitHub Pages, and plans to move them to QConsole soon.

Unlike AWS, QConsole will let users share assets between accounts more easily, though that feature isn’t ready yet. It’s fully compatible with AWS’s S3 tools, so if you know how to use those, you can switch to QConsole by just changing a few settings. Cassie also showed how QConsole’s KMS can create keys for encrypting data (like a “hello world” message) or signing stuff with elliptic curve keys, which is handy for crypto projects. The data stays encrypted unless you’ve got the right key, making it super secure.

✅ Quorum Mobile Beta and More Goodies

Cassie dropped another exciting update: the Quorum mobile beta is launching this week! If you’re in, you’ll get an email with instructions for iPhones (via TestFlight), Google Play, or even a direct APK file for Android. They’re eager for feedback to make it better.

✅ Self-Hosting and Future Plans

Looking ahead, Cassie shared that when the 2.1 update hits on April 14th, Quilibrium will move all its web stuff—like the website, documentation, and software releases—onto QConsole’s storage. Right now, they use GitHub Pages and Cloudflare’s R2, but soon it’ll all be self-hosted on their own network. This includes “Quorum,” a web app that’s currently centralized on the front end. Moving everything to QConsole will make it more secure and decentralized, reducing risks like censorship or attacks.

She also teased “templates” for QConsole, which will let users share ready-made setups—like a virtual game system or a website turned into a “frame” for the Forecaster app. These aren’t ready yet, but they’ll make it easy for people to build cool things. Next Sunday, Cassie will dive into building apps with “QCL,” showing off what developers can do on Quilibrium.

What's New in Q (Wednesday Edition)
Hi folks, it's time for another biweekly update, with news about the protocol, apps, and more!

Protocol
- Memory improvements to hypersync are being evaluated to drive down footprint to desired levels
- QCL Testing to begin in approximately 48 hours
- After this, we run through the final consensus tests and we will be ready for the 2.1 upgrade on mainnet. When this is the case, we will announce the cutoff date and frame for the upgrade to take place.
