1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national.
2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights.
3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right.
4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else.
5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective:
Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not

India’s cities produce most of its wealth, yet they are so woefully underfunded (even accounting for leakages and swindling by muncipal authorities)
Municipal revenue as a share of GDP:
India: 0.9%
Poland: 4.5%
South Africa: 6%
Brazil: 7.4%
UK: 13.9%
Norway: 14.2%
The funding gap has lasted for years. Over the past decade, Centre and state tax revenue rose from 16% to 18% of GDP, while municipal revenue still stays less that measlu 1%.
Property tax shows the same problem. It brings in about 1% of GDP across the OECD. In India it brings in 0.15%.
Cities are responsible for the basics we depend on every day: water, sewage, garbage, buses, footpaths and clean air. These are the services where public spending pays off most directly for citizens, and they are funded the least.
A realistic target is municipal revenue of 3–4% of GDP. Getting there would mean collecting property tax properly, fixing land records, and giving cities both money and the authority to deliver.
India cannot reach developed-country standards with cities this underfunded.

Simple average annual growth in 2021–2025 was 7.83%, the second-highest five-year average in the data going back to 1960, just behind the 7.89% recorded in 2003–2007.
Sustaining such momentum over several years deserves attention. (4/n)
For over a year now, anti-India racism on X has enjoyed freakish reach, engagement/payouts. Every Indian here has watched it happen. Racism against Indians literally incentivised, the X algorithm pours monetisation fuel on it.
Now a mass shooting plan by a white terrorist at a Hindu temple in Chicago has been foiled.
Hate spills from SM into real life, the people tweaking the algorithm will have blood on their hands.
Watching Elon Musk this week has been a fascinating character study in the saviour complex of Western tech billionaires.
They arrive in your country selling you the future. Welcome them, and you’re a country that wants progress. Make them wait, and suddenly your people are victims who need rescuing from their own institutions by the chosen one.
It’s a pattern. When Thai rescuers didn’t use the mini-submarine Musk sent for the trapped boys, and diver Vernon Unsworth called the idea impractical, Musk attacked him as the “pedo guy.”
When Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered X to comply with its rulings, Musk called the judge a “dictator.”
The script rarely changes. Only the country does.
The colonial mindset isn’t always about wanting to rule a country. Sometimes it’s the assumption that you arrive as its saviour, and if the country doesn’t immediately recognise you as one, something must be wrong with the country.
🇮🇳 This is the Indian captain Smit Machchar who valiantly fought off the terrorist co-pilot attacker, who suddenly stabbed him allegedly to hijack and crash the plane full of Israelis.
🙏 Let's all pray for Captain Smit's speedy recovery. Look at him - he's such a gentleman that he's requesting passengers to be kind and treat all airline crew well.
