Instead of a CEO sleep out, we should just put neoliberal economists, the RBA board and big business leaders on the average Australian wage for six months (no access to savings) and get them to show us how it all works - budgeting, finding housing etc, in this economy
Professor Will Steffen was a brilliant scientist, gifted communicator, and brave climate warrior.
Will is, and always will be, part of the very fabric of the Climate Council. His passing leaves us with a deep sense of loss.
Vale Professor Will Steffen.
Vale Will Steffen.
We've lost a truly leading thinker on climate change, someone who made a difference in how the world understands it. And a gentle, positive human being.
I worked with Will when he was founding director of the ANU Climate Change Institute, and owe him much.
I have no words to express my deep sadness for the loss of Will Steffen who passed away last night. He had been one of the most influential individuals in global change science programs, director of GCTE, IGBP, and driver of ESSP that led to the creation of the @gcarbonproject
Dear media, while you are reporting on #Djokovic being detained at the Park Hotel Prison can you please also mention the 33 refugee men that have been detained for 9 years now, that are also there. Half of who got COVID there. Men who were served maggots in their dinner last week
It's not every day that a series of investigations you work on leads to a big industry-wide systemic reform, but today is one of those days. In a 'huge win for renters' landlord insurance providers have ALL committed to no longer pursuing tenants for accidental damage (thread)
BREAKING: Sergeio, 22, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison, 6 months no parole, for direct action at the world's biggest coal port.
He said: “We’re taking our future back. When Australia decides it’s going to destroy it’s people through ecocide, the people will rise up”.
We're on the hunt for a new electricity retailer, as @PowershopAus has been bought by @Shell, a company fighting a court ruling that it must set Paris-aligned emission targets, when not in court over its oil spills in Africa https://t.co/xrceNlBeas
In news that's unrelated to the release of today's bullshit modelling of Australia's not zero by 2050 plan - conducted by @McKinsey - 1,100 employees of the firm signed a letter protesting the obstructive role it is playing in the shift to zero emissions. https://t.co/CS4JLMcoE2
@CommBank The IEA's Net Zero by 2050 report is clear; achieving that goal leaves no room for expansion of the fossil fuel industry. As a bank claiming to be committed to NZE2050, when will Commonwealth Bank rule out funding for companies expanding the climate-wrecking fossil fuel industry?
“Continued large-scale lending to fossil fuels is not only exposing these banks and their shareholders to increasing levels of climate risk, it’s also undermining our chances of getting the climate crisis under control” — @market_forces Jack Bertolus. https://t.co/ghLP0pKXyE
.@DeutscheBank is reportedly preparing to raise funds for @WhitehavenCoal's climate-wrecking #coal business. The bank’s coal policy is meaningless if it can still arrange funds for Whitehaven – a company planning massive new coal projects. #StopWhitehaven https://t.co/aV7UVEoJBr
