I was sitting in a DMV waiting room when a woman suddenly stood up.
I've been here for three hours.
Everyone looked at her.

The employee behind the counter didn't even look up.
What's your ticket number?
She handed it over.
“C-47.”

The woman pointed at the display. That number was called five minutes ago.
The employee frowned.
“C-47 was called?”
“Yes.”

The woman pulled out her phone. I recorded it because I knew somebody was going to say they didn't. The employee checked the screen again. Then she said, “Your ticket was skipped.”
The woman stared at her.

“Skipped?”
Yes You'll have to wait until it's called again.
“My appointment was at 10:20.”
The woman looked at the clock.
It's 1:34.
I know.

People started looking up from their phones. Then an elderly man sitting beside me leaned over.
I've been waiting since 9:15.

The woman turned toward him.
What number do you have?
“C-52.”
She looked at the display, They had already called C-60.
She stood up again.
“Excuse me.”

The employee sighed.
“What now?”
“You skipped him too.”
