Jack Neubauer - From the Adoption Plan to the Adoption Ban: The Politics of Global Humanitarianism in China

When China banned international adoption in 2024, it shut the door on a nearly two-hundred-year history of international efforts to rescue Chinese children. The Adoption Plan tells the story of how the cause of saving the children in China ignited a new global humanitarian imagination and precipitated a transnational struggle for control over the vast quantities of aid that flowed into China on their behalf.

Jack Neubauer @jackneubauer12 A historian of China and the modern world. Jack Neubauer received his PhD in history from Columbia University and completed the research and writing for The Adoption Plan while working as an assistant protessor of history at National Chengchi University in Taiwan. He is currently a policy analyst at the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
