Never can I remember so many Vice Chancellors, from a broad range of Universities, being on the radio and the TV in a single day, ever. And not being bashed and battered but being able to explain how they are supporting huge numbers of aspiring students chart their future.
We welcome today’s announcement to honour teacher-assessed grades and we are delighted to confirm that we will accept students who meet the terms of their original offer with us here at Newcastle University. View our latest statement 👉https://t.co/F8OLyW6K8r #alevelresults
Right result that could’ve been made ages ago. Instead thrown the whole HE sector into disarray (as well as young people’s lives).
BTEC/IB grades noticeably and frustratingly absent from this decision.
A Level, AS Level and GCSE results will now be based on teacher-assessed grades.
Students will receive the higher of their teacher-assessed grade or their moderated grade.
Reverting to teacher assessed grades will bring some long overdue clarity to the students and schools who have been unfairly affected by the adjustment process.
We must ensure that this move genuinely helps social mobility and undoes some of the injustices that came to light.
Pleased to hear about the govts U-Turn but now need to hear how this is going to work. Universiry Admissions teams naturally need answers to be able to make decisions for students.
Congratulations to everyone who accepted an offer to study with us today, we can't wait to welcome you all 😁💗 In the meantime, have a wonderful summer – you’ve earned it! #BuildTheNew
To all those students, teachers, parents, grandparents and friends affected by the A Level results debacle and struggling to find a way to express your anger...My advice?
So lovely seeing all the happy tweets this morning for students who have been accepted onto their desired course, but also some sad situations. Make sure to speak to your Uni of choice to see what they can do.
The government's obsession with earnings as the only measure of success suggests ignorance about the real value of education. It is particularly tone deaf when millions of workers educated & trained by universities are providing important public services https://t.co/uEg5PWfWLj
I think this just about sums up my views on Michelle Donelan’s soeech this morning at the NEON conference on Outreach. #OutreachOnline https://t.co/nDS7cbuBHL
Attending the @NEONHE conference today. Lots to unpack. Bizarre messages from the Minister for Universities but interesting context from Sanda at UCAS.
