@IreneCityNews You mirror everything I feel as well. I’m just slow and steady now. I hate it. I too was so independent and moving all the time. Now like you I’m so afraid to fall again. You’re definitely my ankle buddy too. If you’re ever in Mississauga, we should meet for a coffee!
@IreneCityNews Hi Irene. How you doing? I’m definitely on the mend. No longer using a cane. Stairs are still the worst. Swelling is also an issue but not nearly as much as before. Last physio he turned my ankle a bit too much and I had pain for the next week. Not going again I’ll physio myself.
@IreneCityNews Hi Irene. Thanx for reaching out. I’m doing ok. Like you the swelling is the worse part. But I took your advice and now wear compression socks. My leg is better but my ankle and foot are still very swollen. Very uncomfortable. Still using a cane and limping around. How you doing?
@IreneCityNews No, no brace. Didn’t even think of compression socks until you mentioned it. Going to look into that for sure. I’m sorry you’re missing out on your running. It must seem like it’s in the far distance.I started having my granddaughters back in the mornings but just do kiss & ride.
@IreneCityNews Driving is actually aok. I started off a few weeks ago very slowly, up/down driveway. Then parking lots then roads. But now I’m doing highways. Just much more aware of my surroundings for breaking quickly. I’m just glad to be mobile. How do you find those socks? Are they helping?
@IreneCityNews I totally agree with you on both accounts. In fact I said the overnight issue to my parents tonight too. Funnily enough they’re both 91 as well!! It’s such a struggle to get going every morning.
@IreneCityNews I’m finding that my knee and shoulder are so sore regularly likely due to compensating for the bad foot on the same side. I too thought it would be much simpler than it is. I just want to walk without pain again but it seems like it’s going to take ages. Very depressing.
@IreneCityNews I drove up and down my driveway then in a parking lot. It was actually ok but I’m nervous. Will go out again this weekend. Might drive next week to work but won’t take the highway. It sure is a battle. I just can’t believe how swollen my foot still is. Like enough already. lol
@IreneCityNews Glad you’re getting there, if not slowly. I’m not wearing my boot at home or at work now; I use a cane. Though I do going out anywhere else. I’m on second floor at work, elevator was broken first day back. So I also had to do the steps. Not as many as you by the looks of it tho.
@IreneCityNews Definitely takes time. Physio is key now that the bone is healed. Glad you found someone you like, that’s the first step. You’ll get there I have no doubt. At least you can drive, it’s my right foot so I’m a passenger atm. So frustrating but this is all temporary for both of us.
@IreneCityNews Still using walking boot but am walking using two feet and no boot a little bit. Says I have to work through the pain in order to get the traumatized muscles/tendoms/ligaments working again and less stiff. It’s a work in progress. How goes your battle?
@IreneCityNews Hi Irene. That’s so funny you’re asking, I was going to message you the same thing. I’m doing aok, thank you. Yes to physio but have about 80% range of movement and strength all except the walking movement of the ankle so exercise plan for home. I’m doing it a lot.
@IreneCityNews Oh boy. Not sure how you sleep with it on overnight. Must be awful. Physio will definitely help I’m sure. None for me yet but I do my own gentle exercises for now. It’s such a slow process which I’m not happy with. Thought I’d be further along by now. And still can’t drive.
@IreneCityNews I think I was more surprised how the foot was still very swollen. It has gone down somewhat now. Enjoy your first night sleeping with the cast off. It’s amazing. Lol. Annnd get ready for the dry skin where the cast was. Lots of cream needed!
@IreneCityNews Same as you basically. I use the walker by putting a lot of weight on it too but trying to use my bad foot as much as possible. A touch more weight every day. I guess we need to build up the muscles, tendons etc on bad foot again. I’m still working from home. Maybe next week.
@IreneCityNews Sorry I meant walking boot. Dr said no physio yet. Gotta wait the 3 weeks then hopefully 🤞. Yessss the cast off is freedom! It does hurt to put some weight on it but gotta push through to get the muscles etc motivated again. Since I can’t use crutches, the walker is a big help.
