Fantastic to see the super Yellow-crowned night heron at Belcarra today. Showed well pretty much all day, giving stunning views to everyone that came for it. Probably the best bird on my Irish List. Good to see @LGeraty9 and @Eanin1 also!
Great to see the showy Red-Footed Falcon in Co. Louth over the weekend. Despite the torrential rain, it still showed down to a few feet. Bonus Glossy Ibis also after
The Trumpeter Finch on Great Saltee Island today.
It was great to get such good views of this vagrant from N. Africa - Ireland’s first record.

Yesterday, after 2 hours of searching with no luck, I eventually managed to get the American Coot at Lady’s Island. Just the 8th for Ireland. At one point, it swam into a close corner and gave crippling views. Bonuses of lesser scaup and spoonbill
A great day in the west! Started with Ireland’s second ever redhead, which was a bit distant in choppy conditions and bad light, but still showed quite well (in the pic you can see the peak above eye, steep forehead, and rounded head) and a Iceland gull in Limerick City
Tacumshin, Co Wexford delivers yet again! Went for the Bewick's swans ✅ and news of a Pied billed Grebe ✅ came through while we were on site. Fastest 100 meters I have ran in a while 😂 with @Bonsai_goat
Happy New Year all! An incredible year of birding, perhaps my best yet in terms of quality. 15 ticks bringing me to 265 for Ireland. Bird of the year is extremely difficult to choose, but has to go to the Isabelline shrike. Here’s to another successful year in 2026!
Having dipped this Bufflehead just over a month ago I was delighted when it was refound on Kilbrean Lake. After a 5.30am start, a four hour train journey and a 6km walk, I was rewarded with superb views on Saturday. The 10th Irish record ✅
@BMcCloskey_98 Cheers Brian! I wonder if this is the bird of last year around again, or if that's the one in Wales? I think my twitching has become a little bit obsessive recently 😂
