history for asian players in the nhl and suzuki’s achievement is made about a fictional character by people who refuse to call him by his name (who the fuck is “straight shane hollander”)… y’all are running straight into fetishization territory
comments piss me off, A REAL HUMAN BEING has broken the record to be the first Asian to ever win this and you’re bringing up a fictional character. you guys don’t take us seriously at all and it shows. celebrate real Asian history.
I watched Code of Misconduct last night and I feel sick to my stomach knowing men like Carter Hart and Brett Howden get to play in the stanley cup finals and face no consequences for what they did.
The hrfans who have been gaslighting people of color for months over whether or not Shane would experience racism in the NHL are being dismissive of the achievement of an actual real life Asian player to the point of being blatantly racist? Fork found in fork factory
“shane hollander did it first”
1) Shane isn’t real
2) Shane never won a selke nor is he a defensive centre
3) THIS IS WEIRD BEHAVIOUR. NICK SUZKI IS A REAL PERSON WTF
can queer women and asian players achieve anything in hockey without hr fans erasing them from their own work and success to credit and center fictional men instead. please.
no matter how many goals he scores, brett howden's legacy will always be abandoning a drunk girl crying while being sexually abused because it made him uncomfortable — and then lying about it. crucial evidence was not admitted into court because howden "couldn't remember"
before you dilute suzuki's historic accomplishment for ur fictional character think of how many barriers he had to overcome just to be seen as equal to his white counterparts and ur micro racism that perpetuates those barriers
I understand being a fan of a show and catching references, but this is a real person. An author can write whatever they want, they can control their fictional narrative to make an inclusive world. This is a real person who had to work so hard to surpass expectations. 1/2
